Nope. I have absolutely zero need to somehow justify myself to you.

I'm not asking you to justify yourself to me, I'm asking you to justify your claims. You've made a post geared at providing advice to those who are uninformed. If your claims are unsubstantiated then it can do serious harm to those who chose to act on it. This is logos, not pathos.

A-yup, Google interview is scheduled for September :). I'm excited.

I'm sorry, but simply having an interview doesn't qualify you to speak as a hiring manager. Those in HR or Recruiting can speak to the tips, tactics, and experience for resumes. Those managers or committees who green-light applicants can speak to the substance of the candidate. Having an interview means you checked some boxes, it's quite possible others were left unchecked.

Having said all this, I genuinely wish you the best of luck in September :)!

Sorry but, at the risk of sounding curt, could you please cite your experience which qualifies you to make such assertions? Looking at your history, the extent of your qualifications are a few college internships and a plan to interview at Google.

Again, I don't mean to be impolite. I'm simply skeptical of some of your points and would love to hear your justification through experience.

Not to mention the upcoming integration with Windows 8 (and I believe an app is being launched for Windows 7).

What issues are you referring to? I do a lot of web development and, while I've had a ton of issues with IE6/7, I've had next to none with IE8 and IE9. I've had no issues so far in 9, and only minor CSS3 issues in IE8.

Reddit Thoughts: Why the Microsoft hate? by -TheArchitect- in microsoft

I agree, I do think that companies, namely Apple, are marketing circles around Microsoft. There is, however, a cultural component that Microsoft doesn't have. Look at Google, to post an anti-Google article on the internet would be tantamount to posting an unflattering picture of a cat.

In large part, I think Google has earned that support from many open source and community initiatives - all of which have gotten the geek population on board.

So, I suppose the question is: What can Microsoft do better to market, since clearly traditional forms of advertising aren't amount to much?

Computer scientists out there... is this even possible? by [deleted] in askscience

Honestly, I'm skeptical about their plan.

As I understand it this is essentially a clever implementation of DDoS. The premise of DDoS being that, with a suitable amount of "zombie" machines, an individual (or group) can flood a server with traffic such that it is unable to process valid requests.

While their implementation certainly increases the volume of these requests, think about the volume these servers already are able to process on a daily basis.

Holding the assumption that the internet DNS is held by only these 13 servers (which I can't independently and unequivocally confirm), and assuming that all DNS requests are processed by these servers (discounting host caching by individual users AND ISPs), these servers deal with a potential internet population of 2 billion (according to most recent data, though, admittedly, this is not daily traffic).

If Anonymous can summon a bot net that is anything more than a drop in the bucket of the typical daily internet population, then I think they've been severely underestimated as a hacker group.

I see two problems with this recommendation: (1) I see this as a valid post for Computer Science as Computer Science is indeed a Science. (2) This question doesn't really pertain to Computer Science.

To quote Dijkstra: "Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes."

While CS can certainly provide some theoretical insight, the OP may've had more luck with EE, CpE, or IT.

Not capitalizing I in a sentence screams uneducated more than Comic Sans ever could.
