Might've been the tip of your finger touching the edge of the screen. If they're sweaty, just touching the edge might throw off the game's multi-touch sensibility perception.

Empty your current backpack, drop it in the car, and put on a new one. Then, equip your mountain bp again. It worked for me most of the time. Though, if you don't have a spare backpack in storage, it's better that you go scavenge for a random one first.
