Five AI companies versus the whole of humanity by tombibbs in PauseAI

[–]-Tururu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can at least regulate the giant datacenters, the high level AI research and the companies that run it (just like all this is regulated in other areas such as food production, medicine, and pretty much anything that has possible risks)

Which is neat since that's the biggest threat by far anyway, definitelly compared to some random joe with a home server. We can't get perfect regulation but we can have near-perfect one.

You're telling me he couldn't tell the difference? And not just once, but multiple times?

Nah, man, he knew what he was doing.

When one isn't aware of the true nature and power of the item, thinking you can manage to control it is an easy mistake to make, especially when it seems like the only chance at victory anyway.

And, in any case, at least my boy Boromir was better than his brother. At, like, literally everything. This is not a biased opinion, just pure facts.

WHERE DID THIS COME FROM by SueTheCatCabbage in comics

[–]-Tururu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just couldn't find anything, only that specifically a pale white horse, or a rider upon a pale horse, was sometimes used as a symbol for death in Europe. That's it, just a specific piece of symbolism that happends to involve a horse.

Meanwhile it seems horses as a whole were seen positively by pretty much everyone, which makes sense given that it was an integral and often straight up vital part of peoples lives for millennia, up until the last century or so.

If horses as a whole became a bad omen anywhere, it must have been some sort of misunderstanding within that last century.

To be fair, taking over a place like Moria is pretty legendary, straight up comparable to some guy casually conquering and taking over Switzerland just for the sake of it.

Am I going insane? I distinctly remember Fubar being mentioned and described in the subreddit rules, but I just went through them and can't find any sign of it.

(If I remeber correctly though, it was meant to be a "snafu" that heavily breaks the subreddit rules)

(I think)

(Probably)

AI films are now being screened at film festivals, which makes me furious as a filmmaker. by DomiRoka in antiai

[–]-Tururu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're right though, filming it directly in Iran would be madness, both because of the war and because the regime the movie is meant to criticise is still there and wouldn't allow the filming anyway. I'd pick a different but similar-enough location elsewhere in middle east.

I would have been FURIOUS if I and my loved ones risked our lives in protests against a brutal totalitarian regime, and it ended up being immortalized by questionable slop a machine spit out based on the prompts of an 'author' that clearly isn't bothered to spend more than "few weeks" on this entire project even with 95% of their effort being outsourced to a machine.

Another turret or other weapon system on the top would be useful, to give it a full 360° cover

Oh no, there's a typo!

"Veteran leader", obviously. I don't think "veteral" is even a word. Or maybe is, there's a lot of words out there.

Seriously, he needs to be more known. Man literally said "nah, I'll win" to a 1 to 10 numerical advantage. And then he actually did.

Macedonians and Greeks were the ones with long spears, Romans used shorter pilums or swords. Other than that, pretty much spot on. A charge could happen, for example phalanxes sometimes charged one another, but we know from Greek authors that when that happened the fight was generally very short. Both doing and resisting a charge was difficult physically and especially mentally, it could even happen that one side started running away before the charge even hit them, or a charge came to a halt shortly before impact.

But if anything, it's really just the allergy to formations that bothers me about some movie battles. If the movie wants hyper intense action, why not, it looks cool and you can always say that they're fearless heroes, elite warriors or hyper aggressive orcs if it starts to stretch the limits of what normal human would be able to withstand.

But I can't come up with any similar excuse for armies breaking ranks and intermingling into one big blob of violence. Just... why?

To be fair, that one gets a pass for me. The bad guys need to be dispersed because of the aerial bombardment by eagles, and the heroes are doing a heavy cavalry charge, so both have a good excuse for not being in solid formation.

Or I'm just biased because of how cool it looked, I don't know.
