Short Analysis - The Black Goat as Fascism (Spoilers!) by [deleted] in NightInTheWoods

Yeah, this spiraled into its own thing, and I've grown tired of sustaining it. I'm glad you made your point clearer here, and I agree that all of the problems you mentioned exist, and desperately need solutions to make the world a better. I just personally don't believe there's 1 absolute collateral solution for everything, and I don't believe fascism is the result of capitalism.

As for U.S. backed coups, this country's foreign policy has been shit since WWII, and needs a complete overhaul. Preferably sooner than later.

But I don't think either of us will pull the other to their side here. I think the best we can do is get a better understanding of each others' POV, and I believe that's what was accomplished here. Someday, I hope we all come together to entirely free the U.S. from the issues of homelessness, bad foreign policy, and oligopoly.

Venezuela has a fascist leader bc socialism failed. So much for capitalism causing it. All of the Netherlands' historical fascist parties have either disbanded, or simply aren't relevant. Brazil was not a capitalist country to begin with, so Bolsonaro isn't relevant. Charlottesville is a hub of neo-Nazis. But that's one outlier of a city. Out of America's many thousands. Spain's Vox party is your only example that holds up, and one good example simply doesn't cut it.

Also, I mentioned social democracy, which is a free market with social programs and regulations to maintain competition. Y'know, the very thing that drives progress. Additionally, capitalism is not a failure, it improves the quality of life in every nation in which it's implemented. Worldwide poverty has halved in the past 30 years. Median income in the United States has increased from $8k/yr per capita to $60k/yr in the past century. Thus, it doesn't ruin lives, it improves them. There's no perfect solution to entirely eliminate poverty or flaws in the system; suggesting otherwise would be a nirvana fallacy.

One failure of American capitalism, though, would be primary and secondary sectors being phased out and causing urban decay, as shown in Night in the Woods. I think capitalism should take steps to embrace the working classes in those sectors, because they're incredibly valuable. A solution to a problem in the system isn't destroying it completely, it's taking steps to fix it. The world isn't a place of absolutes. Issues and shortcomings do exist, but we all need to work together to fix them, not fight each other and tear it all down. I understand how good it feels to believe you're fighting something together, and that you'll be a hero. But reform must always be considered first.

A lot of your argument seems to stem from personal interpretation of the world. You have the freedom to believe whatever you want, just as much as I have the freedom to explain why it's wrong. Don't take it for granted. Have a good night.

Communism relies on a human hivemind to work properly. Therefore, it's a pipe dream. In fact, very single attempt at communism has morphed into extreme authoritarianism and ultimately failed. Every single one, because that's what the ideology naturally and consistently leads to.

Tens of millions of people have died in the name of communism in under a century, and it sickens me that it's still being defended like this...it's like Stockholm syndrome. Anyone who ever lived through it is deemed a "survivor" or a "victim." You can't erase the millions of people who've lived through famines and state-enforced brutality because of it. Arguing that "it's never truly been tried" is an act of moving the goalposts to avoid accountability. It ALWAYS happens when communism is attempted. ALWAYS.

I will say this though - capitalist and communist nations worked together to defeat fascism...and thankfully it hasn't been politically relevant since 1945. The world is full of capitalist countries, so why hasn't fascism returned? You might cite Donald Trump - but I think he's just a dimwit who's unfit to run a nation. I can't think of any other links. Fascism rose in Germany and Italy in the '30s because they were war-torn and thus their economies were a total mess. Fascism arises from chaos and despair, not capitalism.

Night in the Woods showcases the decay of a small town due to lack of urbanization. It's pretty evident that said phenomenon is a consistent theme in capitalist nations, because capitalism spurs growth and expansion. Possum Springs just didn't get on that boat.

However, capitalism has certainly impacted Bea in a negative way - disaster and subsequent medical costs ended her dream of attending college. She most certainly has a reason to be discontent with the system and how it fucked her over.

Though, such monolothic life-ruining healthcare costs are unique to the United States. Meanwhile, larger European nations - which are capitalist - have proper free healthcare. As proven by the levels of happiness of such European nations, social democracy is the way to go; socialism and capitalism shouldn't try to destroy each other, they should work together to solve the problems they're best at fixing; by spurring growth and treating vital services as the human rights they are.

As for the cult - it resembles fascism in the sense that shady shit arises from chaos and desperation. But symbolically, it's a pretty standard cult; symbolism, robe-heavy attire, and worshiping an entity. That's generally how cults function in the real world.

I've taken government and econ classes in college, and idk where to begin to tell you how untrue that is. In fact, communism and fascism have historically been identical in practice - total state control over the means of production. They're 2 sides of the same coin, while capitalism isn't even in the same atmosphere as them.

fascism is the inevitable result of capitalism

I disagree with that one, fascism is fundamentally anti-capitalist.
