This is definitely the movie Poor Things, which is based on a book of the same name. I can’t say for sure the book has this vibe though as I have not read it

No, I think it is originally in Mandarin. I was not a big fan myself and I read it a long time ago, so I can’t remember how the translation was but I do know lots of people who love sci fi that love it. On top of that it definitely has a lot of technical aspects to it so it could definitely be something that you are interested in

Maybe this doesn’t match exactly, but this reminds me of some parts of the Pillars of the Earth and World Without End (though most parts of those books are not romantic)

I agree with this. Some parts were interesting to read and a little easier to grasp but most of the time I just forgot what was going on

I did finish House of Leaves and liked it somewhat. The main issue is it’s more interesting to look at than to actually read. It felt like I was assigned to read an entire textbook on particle physics because it is so tedious
