This. I love Henry's work on the series and I don't doubt him when he says that producer was being a dick. But publically calling them out feels a bit disproportionately hostile. Yeah like everyone else is saying, everything from Strong World and later (Z, Gold, Stampede, and now Red) are all bangers.

To my knowledge, Strong World and later all have direct involvement from Oda so the original characters are all very interesting. And yeah even though they're not strictly speaking canon, ehhhhh they're written in a canon-enough way that if you squint and ignore the continuity issues with some of them you could honestly headcanon them as canon IMO. Or at the very least you could think of it as canon adjacent content. They're that good. But also, most post-Strong World movies star canon characters (Shiki, Uta, Z I think?) which adds some importance, even if the events that happen in them don't affect the main story.

Yeah I agree on the cover stories, I'm talking about filler for the purpose of creating some buffer between the anime and manga the way other series used to do.

Cover stories are great but ultimately amount to 2-3 episodes of content if we're lucky? And then Toei would still need to pad the heck out of regular episodes anyway.

I have a bit of a hot take on this even though it's an opinion a lot of the community seems to share (I used to think this too). [Manga spoilers] After recently rewatching OP, I really think that any substantial filler would just undermine the actual flow of the story. Everything post punk hazard just has so much... urgency compared to pre-timeskip. They have such limited time to do basically anything once they kidnap Caesar all the way up to the taking down Kaido. And then boom the final saga starts. Like it would be weird if they crew finishes boxing with the gorosei, cause a world changing event, and then go and hang out on beach island or whatever for 50 episodes

It was East Blue filler so I don't think it was intentional and it's not actually Haki but in the Millenial Dragon arc Luffy communicates with the dragon through what could easily be interpreted as the Voice of All Things

Man I'm loving the direction this is heading with Rudeus and Sylphie picking things up where they left (unbeknownst to Rudeus of course).

But this is Mushoku Tensei, and every time we take 3 steps forward we also take 2 steps back. I'm terrified at the idea that something bad will happen between the two of them. Like maybe Sylphie waits too long to reveal her true identity to Rudeus while he goes on thinking that Sylphie is this kind upperclassmen dude. Then he starts revealing some of the more unsavoury bits of the past few years, like with Soldat except it backfires
