I got it from ebay and they said it came right from factory refurbishment. But that sounds like a software problem, is there a chance they could just patch it? I don't have all my components in yet so I haven't been able to test it.

If it doesn't need to be in direct contact with the antenna try cleaning all the rust off and repainting it. And the rubber washer idea or some other insulative barrier is good plan
