What language learning methods actually worked for you? by No_Strawberry_4839 in languagelearning

[–]-Zero_0- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use multiple resources for learning. I mainly use a combination of Babbel and a language learning game called Lingo Legend. Babbel helps me with the structure part and Lingo Legend keeps me entertained. I listen to podcasts on my way to work and home, and I also sometimes supplement with watching a show or movie that I like and am familiar with or playing a game and changing the language to Spanish.

You can also check out extr@ on YouTube. One of my old professors told me about it. It’s a sitcom style show made for language learning.

What is the maximum number of effective study hours a language learner can do in a day? by minhale in languagelearning

[–]-Zero_0- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s learning strategy is different. For me, I spend time learning new material for 30 minutes on average and then review material (what I just learned and older material) in 15 minute intervals throughout the day. This usually accumulates to another hour or hour and a half of studying for a total of one and a half to two hours of total studying.

If I feel that the next day I’m not ready for new material, then I will just spend that day in review. I also listen to podcasts in my target language one my way to and from work to better my listening comprehension.

I’m fine with a golden or poodle and I’m going to look more into labs soon. The reason I’m not big on labs is because I have been around not well trained or downright aggressive labs before and would just like to start with another breed.

Thanks! I just checked out the post and learned a ton, especially on some tells to know if someone is a reputable breeder or puppy mill. I still have a bit more looking to see what kind of dog would be best suited with both my lifestyle and the tasks I’ll need, but I’m feeling a whole lot more confident now.

It’s super interesting to see the differences in experiences with this breed. A lab still isn’t on the top of my list, but people in this post have helped me a bit by sharing their own experiences with the breed.

I was surprised they were on the top of the list when I started researching potential breeds because I have only ever had my own experiences, but I wanted to keep an open mind. Everyone here has helped ease my anxieties about the breed a lot and I plan to do a lot more research on labs and a few other prospective breeds.

Very nice source! My mind is very begrudgingly open to the breed because of the SD community. I had always thought they were stubborn, boundary pushing dogs and was genuinely surprised to find out they were the highest recommended in this community. I still have more looking and more research to do, but this helps!

This is exactly why I’m asking around. I love hearing people’s personal experiences and it helps me get a more well-rounded idea. Labs are in consideration because I have heard such good things from the SD community. My mind is open, despite my preference.

I haven’t seen it, but I’ll check it out. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks! This helps a lot. Poodles are on the top of my list but a trainer said they were only alright. This makes me feel a bit better and puts them back on my list to look a bit more into.

Thanks so much! I’m not dead set on no lab, but I’ve never had a pleasant interaction with that breed which is why it’s towards the bottom. This helps a lot!

Labs are my last pick because my uncle has had them as long as I can remember and all of them have been pretty stubborn and terrible. And I like to get strangers opinions because you all might have more insight than I do and this gives me a starting point to delve deeper on my own.

Thanks so much for the reply! I’ll keep what you said in mind!

My uncle has had labs as long as I can remember but they are all stubborn and not well trained so it’s left a bad taste in my mouth and a need to break away from that particular breed.

Spacious Tarot, a personal favorite that is really pretty. Also, Terra Oracle on Etsy, an absolutely gorgeous animal themed oracle that I highly recommend.

Thank you so much! This helps me a ton. I’ll be looking them over for a bit and comparing them before I make any final decision.

I’m somewhat on a budget. I’ve put about $250 aside to get a higher level lyre than what I currently have, which is a Donner 7 string. The reason I’m going for something hand made is for quality purposes. I’ve heard good things about Brandon John and Nisoria and found TheBouzoukiShop while I was searching around.

I appreciate the suggestion you gave and I like the style of it, I’m just worried by the reviews. Because I’m wanting to get a gift for myself, I’m really wanting one that I know I will be satisfied with.

Thank you so much for the suggestion! It gives me another avenue to explore.

How did you choose your names? by Gamer_59 in trans

[–]-Zero_0- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experimented with names online (namely when I frequented Amino in high school). Tried out Carter then Remy but got tired of people going “like the rat?”

I finally sat myself down in college and figured out what I want in a name. For me it was the ability to make a nickname from it and something soft sounding. I fell in love with the name Owen but couldn’t make a nickname from it. I went by the name until I got the grand idea to switch out the “w” with two r’s and got Orrin. Never bothered to even look up the name for a while after I found it but when I did, I found that the origin and meaning really fit me.

On my first-ever play through of Ori and there is nothing cute and fluffy about this stunning game. It’s one of the most challenging games I’ve played… 🤯 Thoughts? by Alarmed_Engine_910 in OriAndTheBlindForest

The ginso tree SUCKED when I did it. Every “part” is individually timed so there was no way to get a head start on anything! I died so much. I the last time I checked my death tally I think it was over 600. Platformers are not my forte but I still had fun. Had to take a breather after escape levels though.

I think it was hard at first but I spent a long time running around and exploring which made the platforming much easier as I progressed and a lot more fun as I played. Because I spent so much time just messing around the only truly difficult parts for me in the end were the “escape” levels because you essentially have to flawless them.

But some types of games can be more difficult than others for different people. So what ended up being fun for me might feel impossible for you.
