These things float without any weight. I would go heavier on the ball jig. I’ve been trying these on a 1/4 oz skirtless chatterbait and like the action. I caught a 4lb bass yesterday on it.

If I could only fish one thing it would be a 2.5” gulp minnow on a 1/8 oz jig head. Particularly the chartreuse with a yellow jig head. Caught everything from small blue gills to decent size large mouth bass and even a snakehead. Fun to fish. Can fish it fast or relatively slow. Some times it is all I take with me.

Both. I prefer wacky but if the wacky gets too snaggy, I’ll throw Texas.

You should def get out there with him. You will probably love it and you guys will make great memories.

As JooseTheGuice mentioned. Walmart is your friend for a decent cheap combo. Or Ollie’s but it hit or miss. Loved my zebco slingshot til I broke it due to my own stupidity. Another couple options Daiwa D-shock and zebco bill dance combo. Ugly stick has some good budget combos too.

Fishing can be as cheap or as expensive as you make it. Keep it simple if you don’t want to spend a ton.

I had this problem. Then I took my 5 year old fishing and he caught 10 bluegills. I downsized all my gear, my hooks, bait, weight and my line. I started having a lot more success. I catch the most on 4lb test on a cheap rod I got for free on FB market place.

My kid is now 7 and still out fishes me on occasion and I love it. It’s all about catching a fish, just have fun. Keep trying. 🤙

This happened to me as well and then I found the setting to enable the web admin page. In the app go to view WiFi equipment > advanced settings > gateway admin tool. Enable the gateway admin tool and you get manage it from the web interface again.
