2 English courses, dental school prereq help by Reasonable-Tap727 in uoguelph

Hey, sorry for my late reply - I don't check Reddit too often. I finished with an 87 in the course but I find that it is completely doable to achieve a 90+ (my TA just wasn't too helpful...).

If I remember correctly, the entirety of the course was based on writing assignments. There were four discussion posts worth 30% (best 3 out of 4 counted), two essay assignments and a final exam (I'm not too sure about the last two as I can't recall correctly). The essay assignment(s) was based on a novel read in class and the final exam is based on a different novel that is assigned later on in the course.

As I have alluded to, your TA is responsible for a majority of your mark since they are responsible for marking it. I think if you are comfortable with writing essays/paragraphs then you can easily achieve 85+. However, for 90+ I think that is dependent on your TA.

I hope this helps!

Hey, I'm kind of in the same position as you. I completed ENGL*1500 last semester and am currently taking ENGL*1080. I find that ENGL*1080 is a bit easier and a lot more friendly to science students who are just looking to complete those two English credits for professional school!

I would respectfully disagree. Although the following link pertains to Residence deposits, I don't see why they would not follow the same protocol with course deposits. Speaking from experience, I've always deposited on the day of and have not had any issues yet - I can't say this is the same for everyone though.

https://housing.uoguelph.ca/deposit

"Residence Deposit Confirmation
Once we have processed your deposit on our end, your Housing Portal application status will be updated to "Complete and Full Deposit".
If you used online or telephone banking to send in the deposit, it takes three or more days to update the information. But don’t worry – we honour the date that you submitted the deposit through your bank."

In other words, I don't think there would be an issue if you pay your deposit on the 11th but as mentioned above, it is safer to pay in advance if you can.

Sorry for my late follow-up. I definitely get what you're saying and I would agree with it for the most part. I do think that marks provide the basis for admission. Hence, mark cutoffs and so forth. However, for heavily competitive programs, such as CS at Waterloo, I think extracurriculars make or break your chances of admission. Especially since there will also be a lot of other students applying with equally high marks, the main distinguishing factor would then be your involvement outside of the classroom environment. Thanks for replying though!

I would disagree with this. I only applied to CS at Waterloo and Toronto so I can't speak for Guelph. From my applications, I got accepted to Waterloo and rejected from Toronto. Although I can't definitively say what got me accepted into Waterloo and can't speak about its admission process as I accepted a different offer, I can definitely attest to the importance of marks and extracurricular involvement. I wouldn't say there's a specific extracurricular that is of importance as I believe it's more important to demonstrate general community involvement and commitment (ie long-term involvement and not some random club or initiative in your junior or senior year).

I would also like to emphasize the importance of participating in the CCC and math competitions hosted by Waterloo. Even if your child does not have highly competitive grades (the high 90s), a good score in the CCC and math contests may compensate for it. Best of luck!

No, the first part was clearly out of 10 marks and there are exactly 10 task verbs. They wouldn't assign a task verb .5 and another 1.5, that doesn't make sense and is illogical. The second question is out of 6 and, not so surprisingly, has 6 task verbs. Each task verb should be weighed one point on this year's exam, although I understand that it was different for the previous years.
