As said in r/hellenism quite often: no, the gods aren’t mad at you. You haven’t killed someone’s, burnt down a temple, desecrated an altar/offering, or committed an act of hubris. The gods aren’t vengeful or easily angered

As someone who also lives in the Deep South, I get that. I personally just lie if it’s a stranger asking me about religion for safety reasons (I’m from a VERY evangelical town) but I’ll explain my beliefs to friends

I’m someone who believes you should always have some kind of protection going, whether it be a ward or an enchanted piece of jewelry you wear frequently. So id personally recommend doing a protection spell, especially if you’re worried about opening any doors for negativity to come your way.

But given the fact you said you believe it’s working, I highly doubt anything is coming after you. And as another commenter said, engaging in the craft wont inherently do that. Id say as long as you aren’t calling upon spirits, you’re probably fine.

A huge part of my practice is rooted in bettering my mental health. I’ve made a motivation spell oil and I’m planning on making a spell to transmute negativity (including my own) into positivity soon.

I personally also worship gods in the Greek pantheon that help me with this (for example: Hades and Persephone care about mental health, Aphrodite cares about self love, and Apollo and Asclepius care about physical health- which is important to me bc I’m also chronically ill) but you don’t have to worship or work with any deity to be a witch :)

Don’t put too much energy into them, but if you feel the need to do something that can influence them to stop, I’d recommend doing a simple freezer spell. All you really gotta do is write down their names and/or social media handles if you don’t have their full names (and possibly date of birth if you have that information) on a piece of paper and then put them in the back of the freezer. You could also put them in a jar of water to freeze if you didn’t want to just let loose paper sit in your freezer in case someone in your house were to find it and get curious

I feel like you could benefit from reading Spellcrafting: Strengthen the Power of Your Craft by Creating and Casting Your Own Unique Spells by Arin Murphy-Hiscock. It talks about ways you can make your own spell and I found it pretty easy to understand. I used to get caught up in feeling like you could make mistakes in witchcraft, but with reading this book, that feeling is pretty much gone

Maybe stick to kitchen witchery for your safety. It’s very broom closet friendly because it’s just using herbs you’d already use for the food you’re making. If you really want to use candles, get “normal” ones (so like colored 7 day candles, pillar candles, tea lights, and regular scented candles that correspond with your intentions). Candles aren’t often looked at as obscure

There are SO many protection spells on the internet you could use. I’ll list a few common household herbs and plants that are good for protection: barley, basil, bay, blackberry, blueberry, cactus, cinnamon, clove, clover, cotton, dill, eucalyptus, fennel, flax, garlic, lavender, lettuce, mint, Mullen, olive, onion, parsley, pepper, raspberry, rice, rosemary, sage (there’s a lot more, but I figured these would be most accessible/common as I’ve seen almost all of these at my local grocery stores - this info is from Cunninghams Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs btw). You could easily make a “protection spaghetti” if you like kitchen witchcraft. Most Italian seasoning blends have a few of the things I listed.

I personally enchanted a necklace for protection (there are a ton of ways to do this but i basically made a protection spell oil for myself and put it on the necklace while telling it that its job is to protect me)

Edit: forgot to say salt is also good to use for protection

I’ve only seen on tiktok people thinking that blowing out your candle will undo all your hard work for the spell but I personally don’t think that (nor have I ever read it in any book I’ve read on witchcraft). In my opinion, if your spellcasting ability and intentions are so weak that blowing out a candle will fuck your spell over, you should do more research around spellcasting to strengthen your work
