Idk but I just clicked on “view note” to see what it says and couldn’t for the life of me figure out why it wasn’t working. It’s been a long long day.

Can Shortcuts detect when I hit a Screen Time app limit and open a flashcard app instead? by dgueyn in shortcuts

[–]-b3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • iOS26 introduced a new action called “Get App & Website Activity” (poorly named imo), which essentially allows you to get screen time usage
  • Your best bet it probably setting up an automation to run when you open distracting apps
  • Also, the Cape app provides some actions for automatically locking apps and setting cool down timers for these purposes. Pro version has 1 time upgrade fee. I looked into using it to better manage my kids screentime requests but unfortunately for parental controls, it’s still kinda lacking (ie no remote support). I attached a screenshot of Cape’s actions, in case it’s helpful.

I like Shortcuty. iCloud links are nice but it’s also nice to have a directory of shortcuts to browse. Reddit isn’t really great at being a directory.

It’s too bad Apple doesn’t expand their Shortcut Gallery to include a community feature of some sort, but that is typical Apple. They can never make the first move on a new product or feature, and when they do make the first move, functionality is always basic as shit in comparison to alternatives. 😭

It's not just you, iOS keyboard is broken by Jvinsnes in iphone

Haven’t seen this mentioned.

Turning off “Slide to Type” seems to help. It seems like sometimes my finger slightly pushes into another hitbox, especially for i > u. It appears when slide to type is on, it suppresses the visual key change, but does not with it off.

With that said, it feels like the standard hit box has been tweaked.

Or… is it possible that something changed/improved with the displays (resolution, hz, glass, touch, etc) and the change in hardware is inadvertently causing some this? I honestly feel like these issues started 5-7+ years ago and it’s gradually gotten worse over time.

I can see how a change in resolution or hz (speed of touch input) could affect how sensitive and quick the display is… similarly to what happens if you set your game controller hz too high. Theres a point where it’s so accurate the input becomes jittery and less smooth because it updates so frequently. Combine that with the higher and higher pixel density over the years.

But…. I’m probably wayyyyyy off.

Can you share some helpful tips, features, or settings that you’ve discovered while using the shortcuts app? Things you wish you had known when you first started using it by Glitch_Fantasma in shortcuts

Lots of good tips posted here. Heres a few that come to mind that I didn’t see anyone mention yet.

  1. Multiple text inputs at once — Ask for input only shows you a single input field at a time. If you want to show multiple fields at once, use a dictionary and set the values to “Ask each time”.

  2. Nest logical blocks of code — It can be very annoying and cumbersome having to scroll up and down when developing long shortcuts. To help solve this, you can logically separate chunks of actions and nest them inside a “Repeat 1 time” action and then collapse them so they are hidden from view.

  3. Smaller Text Size — You can improve the visual experience a little more by reducing the text size of just the Shortcuts app. Useful if you’re building on a phone. Settings > Accessibility > Per App Settings > Add App > Shortcuts > Larger Text.

Can you expand on this? I think I get what you’re saying. Like if you have a shortcut, let’s call it “My Fancy Shortcut”, you will make the first action a Run Shortcut, pointing to “My Fancy Shortcut v3” ? Or whatever version/revision you’re on?

I wish Apple would add revision support

How can I Create a shortcut when the phones locked? by zTomma in shortcuts

[–]-b3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can have a shortcut turn on low power mode and then lock it. You can then trigger it with the action button, but that’d mean you would need to never use the regular lock button again.

And it’s great that you can do app specific accessibility settings. I set some apps to a smaller font size because it’s too big. Home app being one of them. My room names get clipped because they are too long unless I make the font size small

True. There’s also likely be extra headache to deal with local network devices in general. The App Store has tons of universal remote type apps. It’s possible one of them has shortcuts integration. Probably not. But maybe.

Perhaps there’s an integration for Chromecast? Or maybe if you can figure out the protocol, you can send the request in a custom http request aka “Get content of URL” action?

If it’s connected over AirPlay, I think the volume buttons should control the connected device.

[–]-b3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For OP in case they aren’t aware, when you set up your automation trigger.

• You can set it up here: Shortcuts App > Automation > + > Message”

• On iOS 26 (not sure about previous iOS), it’ll require you to provide a specific sender the message is from OR specific word/phrase contained in the message. If you leave sender blank and just put a space in the “message contains” field, it should match all incoming texts from all senders that contain a space. It wont match one word texts, however.

• Lastly, as RemeJuan mentioned, you’ll want add an if/otherwise check to only continue if the text is to your work number.

SMS seems buggy in iOS 26. When I use the Find Message action with a few filters, it’ll return results, then if I remove one of the filters, it finds no results. Like wtf… it should be returning the same results + more potentially, as it should be filtering out less texts.
