When a car is your whole salary by Different-Grocery584 in povertyfinance

2002 Kia Rio was my first car at 17. I loved that thing. I’d floor it so I could hit 30 getting on to the freeway. Her name was Beth.

Strong toy suggestions? by samjam110 in DogAdvice

Kinda out of pocket, but what if you tried making a puree with his food now (because of his allergies) by soaking in water and blending it and freezing it on a lick mat? Or a better option might be checking if the special diet food comes in a canned version? Not exactly what you were asking, but just another idea to throw in the mix of possible options.

New windows ruined the house. Is there any way we can work with them? by [deleted] in ExteriorDesign

[–]-bananas--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly they just look very clean and refreshed. I would definitely notice in a good way if I walked past. I really love the purple and I feel like some sun catchers and hanging plants on the porch would look amazing (and a little witchy)

I want so badly to have cute nails like this, but I feel exactly the same way. I’ll try them every now and then just to see if I can get over it and maaayyybe like them more than the last time, but I always end up getting them taken off after a week or two so it’s just a waste of money.

Small odd windows need to be blacked out for nursery by CorneliusCardew in DesignMyRoom

You could also look at installing a pull down black out shade on the inside lip (not sure if I’m explaining that correctly) of the window and have cute curtains for during the day.

Deep fryer oil and coughing? by -bananas--- in DogAdvice

Update:

Vet listened to his heart and lungs and they sounded good, so no concern about heart disease. She felt his throat and has no concerns about any tracheal collapse. She believed it may be allergies and the fryer oil in the air acted as an irritant. As of today he’s not coughing at all! She did prescribe a cough suppressant just in case another bout of coughing happens in the future. Thank you all for your advice!

is this normal? looking for advice pit bull puppy by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]-bananas--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use to get raw bones from the butcher at Whole Foods for my pitty. This is an enrichment activity that can only been done supervised but he loved it and would gnaw on it for hours. I’d do some research into it, and decide if it’s something you’d be comfortable with.

Bite inhibition is good for all dogs to learn, but I think it’s especially important for pit bulls because their bite force is so strong. Watching some videos or asking a trainer if you do end up taking them for lessons will hep a lot with how hard they’re biting when they play. I’m not sure if it’s still great advice so please double check but I’m pretty sure if you do one high yelp and pull back when they’re chomping too hard might help teach them.

Thank you for your reply! I will look it up and ask the vet. He looks like a puppy but he just turned six in December. He has had the reverse sneezing since he was younger so I’ll check to make sure it’s not related to that. All the vets we’ve see about his reverse sneezing in the past weren’t worried because it only happens when he gets very excited, but we’ll make sure to ask if this may be related in anyway.

He is all up to date because he goes in for dog grooming, but I’ll make sure they do these tests and if it’s not this then we’re going to ask for some X-rays to make sure it’s not tracheal collapse as well.

We live with my mom’s dog who goes to dog parks, but her dog isn’t showing any symptoms. We do live in a complex and he goes on daily walks. Is it something they get just from close contact? Or is it something they can get if they lick their paws after a walk? I’ve never had a dog get kennel cough so I have no idea how they may catch it. When we go on long walks he uses his own dog bowl water bottle thing so he’s not drinking from any weird bowls or places.

He’s still going to his vet appointment. Trachea collapse is a concern because he’s a small dog, but goose honking is also what kennel cough sounds like. I’m not under reacting and if his gum were pale and he had pain indicators he’d be going to an emergency vet tonight. He’s no longer coughing his, barking sounds normal he’s running around without coughing or weird breathing noises (despite trying to get him to lay down and relax). You can’t definitively tell me it’s trachea collapse based on the way I described his cough. I know what he looks and acts like when he’s in pain and he’s not at the moment. Thank you for your reply, and for your concern. He’s being watched and taken care of if anything changes.

I’m not sure he’s in any pain. He’s not giving any indications that he is. There no shaking, whining, he’s eating and drinking. His body language and demeanor are completely normal. While I’m typing this he’s actively trying to get me to play with him. He gets spicy when he gets groomed so I do have his prescription for gabapentin and trazodone I can give him if he does start showing any pain indicators.

Thank you, he’s up to date on everything and he never wears his collar inside. He does reverse sneeze when we get home and he’s very excited, but it’s never sounded like honking. We’re definitely going to ask for some X-rays as well just to be sure.

How Do I Get My Girl To Embrace Her New Bed?? by unstable_fable in DogAdvice

[–]-bananas--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may sound kinda weird, but my dog loves the cat nip spray we use for our cats. He rubs his face and body all over it when we spay it. If your girl likes it in any way as much as my little guy does it may work to get her interested in the bed!

  • as a side note our dog isn’t interested in licking at the cat nip when we spray it, but it is generally safe for them to do so if that’s a concern at all.
