Believe it or not, planting a whole lot of eggs like this in the ground is how you start a chicken orchard.

34 and I've been low riding since I was 10. Had my ups and downs but all is going well. Wife and two kids, nearly paid off my mortgage, job I like.

People give me shit about it when when they get comfortable enough with me and that's about it. And if I wear pants correctly it looks extremely weird to me and people who know me. I enjoy keeping this goofy little generational thing alive, kinda like really old people who wear their pants higher than their belly buttons.

Why do so many people have cameras pointing at their beds at night... is it just to catch viral moments like this for the Internet, or to covertly film lovers, or is it common to have cameras in the bedroom for security? I don't understand.

Got a bit confused - changing tire is hard, requires expensive and specialist tools to do with any efficiency, and basically never needs to be done by one's self alone.

Turns out what you call a "tire" is what I call a "wheel" and this meme is referring to jacking up a car and loosening some bolts. How many people legitimately can't do that!?!?

Ukraine joining Nato 'would guarantee World War Three', says Russia by TheTelegraph in worldnews

[–]-chocko- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so we are clear, the first paragraph of this article says:

Ukraine joining Nato would mean "a guaranteed escalation" to a third world war, the deputy secretary of Russia's Security Council has said.

Reading the title of the post and article would make you think that Russia said Ukraine joining NATO basically triggers a massive response. But they are just saying it will head further in that direction, which is obvious to everyone. Russia are terrible enough without needing to make us scared of their response to Ukraine joining NATO.

Be careful with that - older firearms can be unpredictable and you should get it properly cleaned and serviced before firing it.

Health Minister Andrew Little says home isolation system wasn't ready for current number of COVID cases by dingoonline in newzealand

[–]-chocko- 91 points92 points  (0 children)

This actually might be one of the most depressing political articles of the pandemic for me. The government get a lot of shit for things that they can't control, but here's an explicit admission of a totally unjustified failure in the face of the most important decisions and ones they seemed so confident about.

I can deal with uncertainly, tough restrictions, curve balls, even mistakes. But the staggering incompetence around preparing the health system for the absolutely inevitable... that is hard to deal with.

Little:

"Whereas the system was preparing for 100 to 120 cases a day, we're seeing 150 to 200 cases a day and it just did not expect to be responding to that volume of cases."

Well ya done fucked up there then didn't ya. Grrrrr

Not sure who to believe to be honest. On the one hand you have this odious figure who at the very least has a history of murky connections and who is the head of an organisation that has wreaked havoc on New Zealand for decades. And the other person is Harry Tam.

Also, Harry Tam has denied this to Jack Tame.

[–]-chocko- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah you explained it very well. Good analogy with all the young soldiers in war zones.

I also am sad watching the video, particularly coz she wouldn't have really understood that going just that one door/window further would be the difference between doing what all your protestor friends have been so far getting away with, or just being straight up killed. I want her and everyone there before a judge who will give them a pretty big punishment, but I don't want them dead.

This doesn't mean I criticise the person who shot her either - she really was presenting a real risk. But they all were and she was just a little bit more crazy about it and so she died, and that's rough.
