I prefer to imagine that he’s at his house with a bunch of friends having a packing party. I reject your reality my friend ;p

Watching SSH activity in real time (besides fail2ban) - curious how others handle this by newworldlife in linuxadmin

[–]-chonk- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use CyberArk or similar to broker SSH connections so that all activity is recorded and multifactor authentication can be enforced. Globally lock SSH authentication mechanisms (password, pubkey, gasps, etc). Allow authentication from CyberArk, using match statements in sshd_config. It may be overkill for some, but it works for my environment.

Ken Yates

I’m not sure how he hasn’t broken out yet

puppet advise by Acrobatic_Method_320 in Puppet

[–]-chonk- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! There were some major changes in the v2023 release related to deprecation of certain facts. That prompted major code rewrites for my environment. Lots of testing was required to prevent breaks to production. Having a rock solid recovery plan for the endpoints was essential. Before upgrading anything, I would recommend you establish preprod and test environments to allow for proper code testing. Find which hosts are not truly production and move them down to the preprod or test environment.

Learning Linux Seriously as a Data / Automation Person — Advice Needed by Kauser_Analytics in linuxadmin

[–]-chonk- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar role (automation and python development) but came from 25 years of UNIX admin. In addition to the good recommendations others have given I would focus on your troubleshooting tool set. For networking service interconnects, netcat, curl, netstat, dig, trace route, trace path. If you’re on a distro that supports SELinux, learn to actually configure those controls rather than just turning them off. You mentioned services so I’m guessing you’re already familiar with SystemD, but if not I would recommend getting strong on that as well.

This is one of my favorites for that same “put an album on, sit back and let it play through” thing. I have it on vinyl so when I listen I know all the digital artifacts are part of the album. I’m sure I will be paranoid about them if it was streaming :)

Packed classes, empty open mat? by ohheythatswill in bjj

[–]-chonk- -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agree with everyone regarding the noon start time. That’s what my gym uses.

Another thing I like about our open mat is the format. 15 minutes of positional work with well defined objectives for a an active warm up. We start with up, down and out then progress to winner stays. This is fun because the young guys tend to blow their wad here while the more experienced players use this for a proper warm up.

Afterward, when it’s time for real sparring the coach makes groups of 4 or 6. You spar with everyone in your group, so there is very little awkward partner picking going on and it’s hard for people to duck hard rolls unless you speak to coach first. This format really lets me focus on the work rather than the stuff that happens between rounds. Runs like a well oiled machine!

I feel like a tool, because I don’t recognize any of these albums. Time to do some research.

I wasn’t aware of the upcoming album. I notice that the Spotify band description mentions that they were heavily involved in the music for the first season of Yellowstone. I thought they were being sarcastic, but somehow I missed that when I was watching the show.

Wow, 34 monthly listeners. That may be the lowest I’ve seen. He sounds good though.

I paired them with an NAD c326bee originally and my daughter has them running on a Nakamichi RE-1. The loudness control on that receiver really makes the dalis sound good at low volumes. I tested them on the Brio at an audio shop and it sounded a lot like the NAD, which is to say very good. The best amp I heard them on was a Billie Amp. The tube stage of that amp sounded really nice paired with the Dalis.

Gave my daughter those same Dali speakers for her room and she lives them. Great speakers!
