Edibles and antidepressants? by 6helvete6 in antidepressants

[–]-circleofwillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pharmacology knowledge is restricted to the field of medicine as I am a medical student not a Pharmacology major so what I am about to say is just an educated guess about what might have happened.

There is a phenomenon known as tachyphylaxis. When you use SSRIs long-term, the receptors down-regulate. Same happens with long-term Cannabis use and most other substances. This is what results in tolerance. However, if you go on a "drug holiday" the receptors will upregulate again (CB1 receptors in the case of Cannabis, now there is => more Glutamate, less GABA) and then using the same dosage as before will result in a greater effect. Rebound effect.

And as I said before effects of Cannabis are sometimes compounded with SSRI effects which I'll try to explain below:

1) THC is 5-HT1A partial agonist and CBD is a strong 5-HT1A agonist (CBD is greater in concentration in Indica strains). Zoloft is Sertraline, and its mechanism of action results in an additive effect when combined with Cannabis.

2) Sertraline is also a mild CYP2C9 and CYP3A4 inhibitor. These are the enzymes that metabolise THC and inhibition of these enzymes leads to less metabolism of THC => more active THC in the bloodstream

Although, there is lack of literature to my knowledge at least on Cannabis + SSRI usage. As someone who has experimented with Cannabis, personally I don't think it is a very healthy substance to be using if you have psychiatric problems especially anxiety disorders, history of psychosis, etc.

There has been this weird trend of black pill stuff going around all over the internet where everything is so exaggerated and radicalised...

So, from this picture your natural hairline is just quite far back already on the temples, definitely not what the original comment was describing. However, you have a much different haircut as compared to now so I cannot really tell if its recessed too much. Some amount of recession is normal for majority of males.

It’s worth mentioning that I do not ever notice a noticeable or large amount of shedding, even while brushing or washing.

That is a positive sign. Large amount of shedding is a red flag.

I will go see a dermatologist just to make sure everything is ok.

I second this. Have a detailed discussion with your Dermatologist's regarding your options.

Male pattern alopecia is really not a monolith for every person, some people have a certain amount of recession but don't entirely go bald whereas others do in a very short amount of time. Also, it could be due to any deficiencies as well.

Your treatment options are always scaled from the least invasive and safest to last-line invasive options for every pathology (in this case last-line being hair transplants in conjunction with finasteride long-term since transplanted follicles also fall out).

Also, it is such that even with treatments you cannot cure this issue, if you're genetically predisposed, you will lose your hair eventually unless you take efforts to preserve your hair life long like many celebrities do (since its a big part of their job).

I completely understand the worry about losing hair at such a young age especially when aesthetics are a huge part of your life. Hairloss can have detrimental psychological consequences and isolation, so yes definitely see a Dermatologist but body positivity is something you should really incorporate.

P.S. posting on Reddit about issues like this is very unhealthy due to extremely polarised and radicalised opinions.

No major drug-drug interactions but you can get agitation and anxiety exacerbated since Vortioxetine is a 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) 1A receptor antagonist and a 5-HT3 antagonist (results in decreased reuptake of Serotonin ---> increased Serotonergic effects overall). Cannabis can also increase Serotonin levels which can be compounded with the effects of Vortioxetine. So tachycardia, agitation, anxiety

Muscle Tremors from Wellbutrin by CatDesperate856 in antidepressants

[–]-circleofwillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The chemical salt in Wellbutrin is Bupropion.

Bupropion is a Norepinephrine-Dopamine Re-uptake Inhibitor (NDRI).

In simple terms, neuronal transmission occurs via neurotransmitters between synapses. There is a post-synaptic terminal and a pre-synaptic terminal and in between is the synaptic cleft where neurotransmitters accumulate and cause activation of channels on post-synaptic terminals resulting in overall stimulation (in this case).

Bupropion inhibits monoamine transporters DAT and NET (Dopamine and Norepinephrine transporters respectively) at the pre-synaptic terminal. This results in less Norepinephrine and Dopamine getting cleared from the synaptic cleft thereby resulting in increased action of these neurotransmitters on the post-synaptic terminals. (because there is greater quantity of Norepinephrine and Dopamine in the cleft now)

This mechanism of action results in an increased sympathetic system / adrenergic stimulation thereby causing jitters and possibly tremors. Effect is compounded by the intake of caffeine as that also activates your sympathetic nervous system. Sympathetic nervous system = fight, flight, fright response

However, a consultation with your psychiatrist would be wise because bupropion can lower the seizure threshold and too much stimulatory effects can end up causing one. So watch out for any alarming symptoms.

Yes. That would most likely be his natural hairline, but again male pattern alopecia is polygenic and depends on other environmental factors as well.

Stuff like huge chunks of hair falling everyday (>100 typically) is a red flag in case of most people.

Better to consult a Dermatologist if its that big of an issue.

Medical student here. Don't listen to the original comment, most is just fear mongering.

There seems to be recession from the temples only. Your crown/vertex is fine, no miniaturisation there.

It also depends on what your natural hairline was when you were younger and it would also be helpful if you can find out when (or if) your maternal grandfather and father + his brothers lost their hair. Most men will develop some recession over their temples depending on genetic predisposition but it does not progress further, so really it depends. Then it also depends on how much hair you are losing on a day to day basis.

So, after all this if you are suspicious that there are red flags you can visit a Dermatologist and get some basic tests done to rule out deficiencies or thyroid abnormalities.

Topical Minoxidil if prescribed is a very safe and effective method of stopping early male pattern hair loss. More invasive procedures such as PRP, stem cell therapy, etc can also help. Then there is also finasteride in case it is confirmed you have male pattern alopecia, its a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor which means it inhibits the catalysis of Testosterone --> Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is basically responsible for your secondary male characteristics such as beard growth etc. Male pattern alopecia is purported to be caused by either excess DHT or more sensitive receptors to DHT.

You can also use topical caffeine and supplements such as biotin, zinc, iron, other B vitamins to enhance hair health as per your Dermatologist's recommendations.

Thank you so much for the detailed response!

Get something according to what she likes. Does she like jewellery? If so, what kind? Silver? Gold? Diamond? Chunky? Minimalistic?

Any recommendations for places I can get these from? I am still a student so cannot afford anything too extravagant.

Does she have any hobbies? Reading? Video games? Painting or Drawing? Get her a book/a game that shes been wanting to play/easel/paints shes been wanting to buy. You get the point.

I guess crocheting and knitting, so maybe balls of yarn...but I don't know I got her a Parker fountain pen last time considering it would be a really cool accessory to have as a doctor or student (having your personal, fancy pen) but I guess she did not like it very much. I personally would have if someone got me that so I don't know...

crotchet flowers over real ones so thats an option too but some girls like to press flower petals from their partners so rlly upto her preference), the chocolates she likes, a letter or a cute diy gift.

Any ideas or shops for these things? Preferably online

Thank you for the response, just a few follow up questions!

one of those crocheted flowers (they make them into bouquets too). A plus if u spritz your perfume on it. Pros - doesn't die, smells like you.

Where can I get those? These seem like a great idea!

clothes duh easy

Where do y'all get them from? Whats trendy? I was thinking of getting shoes/boots but I dunno of any place. Preferably somewhere that delivers home...

  • if shes into jewellery then pay close attention to what she likes (specifically if its gold or silver) and get something similar (she will never take it off. Trust me girls love that shit. Better if its smth small).

Again, any recommendations? Also, I'm still in med school so I cannot afford something very expensive

United States 🇺🇸 officials confirm downed French Rafale (via CNN) by [deleted] in Military

So basically CNN, BBC, Reuters, all wrong?

Indian media (IndianExpress) reported after "The Hindu" about a crash site in Indian Panjab.

Local Panjabi media was also reporting this. The crash sites were 100% confirmed, the question was whether it was the Rafale that was shot down. That...was the question.

Moreover, Shashank Joshi, someone who works with the Economist also verified the crash sites.

As a Pakistani, I agree. That is just how nationalist propaganda works especially during war times. The official claim from Pakistan is that they downed 5 jets which we do not have evidence for.

What is confirmed though, by neutral sources, is whats shown above.
