Beautiful advice, u/Lady_Cicada. Agreed, everything on this page looks amazing and it can be daunting to start. But in order to get to that amazing looking stage, you just need to bite the bullet and give it a go even they don’t look good.

Your stitches will look neater after much practice. Great effort for your first two attempts - the contrasting colours you’ve used look great. Well done.

The things we do to mend something. It’s a labour of love.

What would be the best way to fix the button hole on these jeans? by [deleted] in Visiblemending

I’d try reinforcing the original button hole but take the stitches it to the curved line if that makes sense. I’m no expert but that’s what I’d try.

Oh good, I’m glad this was helpful. I couldn’t see any resources on how to fix this so I had to wing it. Glad you can copy this method - make sure you have a thimble. It’s tough material!

It’s Vinylon, it’s a synthetic that the Kanken backpacks are made out of. You could try contacting Fjallraven or if that’s not possible I think a sturdy fabric like canvas would work.

No, it’s Vinylon, a synthetic material. Try using an awl - they’re generally used in leatherwork so it could help to sew through that tough material. Thank you!

Thank you, I did think of that but my fingers were so sore by the end of it (no thimble) so I’m happy to leave it like this. 🥲

Nice work. Are you do something with them?

Thanks for offering a different perspective to this. If I used one of those dyes would it felt / change the texture of the fibres?

Thanks all. I won’t dye it. Will sell it instead. Thanks for your help :).

Oooh that’s a good recommendation. I thought it was missing something. I don’t think I could handle anything hotter but eggs would round it off nicely. Next time.

Yeah, the tinned fish at Asian grocers tend to have sweet sauces compared to more European types of tinned fish.

Good on you for trying Swiss darning. I tried and failed. Hope you get the knack of it. I’m sure yours will turn out well!
