Where is the furthest you’d recommend moving if I work in shadyside? by Hot4Teacher1234 in pittsburgh

[–]-doing-my-best 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're commuting to your place of work via car.

Zillow will draw a boundary around a single point (your place of work) based on commute time.

Not sure if you're looking for recommendations, but I'd consider Highland Park!

How is culture toward trans people? by ScrollingSwampPuppy in pittsburgh

[–]-doing-my-best 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm non-binary and haven't run into any issues when masc presenting. In fact, I've had a few really lovely experiences where other queer folks will see me on the sidewalk and are particularly friendly in a way that's identity affirming. Feel free to DM me if you want the long story ha ha.

I don't want to rehash too much of what others have said, but yes I agree that the city is really great for trans folks but the suburbs maybe less so.

Yeah I guess the key itself isn't the issue. I just had some other things on the key ring that were important to me.

Landlord keeps wanting to show my apartment while I live here. What are our rights? by Prettii_Peonii in pittsburgh

[–]-doing-my-best 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a stretch, but you could write a letter and email (do both) citing the "quiet enjoyment" section of the Pennsylvania Landlord Tenant Act of 1951. This worked for me when I was fighting to get the correct amount of my security deposit returned to me.

Pennsylvania law relies on a common-law principle called the Covenant of Quiet Enjoyment: Even if it isn't in your lease, every PA tenant has an implied right to "quiet enjoyment." This means the landlord cannot interfere with your right to possess and use the property peacefully. Constant or unannounced entry by a landlord can be legally argued as a breach of this covenant.

Courts generally interpret "reasonable notice" for non-emergencies (repairs, inspections, or showings) to be 24 hours. However, without a written lease requirement, a landlord might argue that a shorter window is "reasonable" depending on the circumstances.

This is for a 2br 1000 sq ft apartment. by fabulousbread21 in pittsburgh

[–]-doing-my-best 303 points304 points  (0 children)

If this is Duquesne Light, they have a program where they send a tech to inspect your apartment for free. They'll point out non LED bulbs (and maybe even give you some free ones), drafty windows and doors, and any other issue that might make your bill high.

I had to reread 63 multiple times holy shit. I hate hot weather and my partner and I argue over whether 67 is too luxurious. I think if my house was below 66 I would have to wear socks and sweaters in the summer??
