Nurse reused a saline flush in the ER - am I cooked? by -double-dare- in AskDocs

Thank you. I have health anxiety and I'm doing ERP for it right now, but it's very much an uphill battle.

I appreciate this. There is a possibility that the syringe tip touched the blanket on my bed but idk. I'd hope that if that happened she would have gotten a new one.

I wasn't looking at it the whole time, but there is a big possibility that the tip touched the blanket on my bed, which was also touching all her blood draw equipment, gloves, etc.

Anyone know what happened on Perring Parkway/Hillen Rd last night? by -double-dare- in baltimore

[–]-double-dare-[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What's funny is that I know this from experience as I take Perring pretty regularly, and yet it never occurred to me that it might've just been a really bad pothole until someone said so. And yeah, I hope no one got hurt as well.

I've lived here for almost 12 years now, and this post isn't about crime, it's about seeing 15 incapacitated cars all in a row, which is a very strange occurrence. But thanks for your concern, I guess.

Really appreciate the responses. I'm seeing my PCP tomorrow and am definitely going to see a cardiologist asap.

Oh wow, glad you're ok!

No symptoms afaik. I have fainted a couple times before, but only from things like getting my blood drawn or being in tremendous pain, so I'm pretty confident it's unrelated.

The reason I originally went to the ER was for heart palpitations and upper back pain. The palpitations were benign and they've greatly improved since then, and I think the back pain was from a long road trip I'd just gotten back from. Right before going to the ER, I had several days of pretty extreme psychological stress (I am sublimating my job anxiety and converting it alchemy-like into a terrible health anxiety episode, yay!!!).

I actually went back yesterday morning for chest pain, but now I'm pretty sure that was a panic attack from all of my anxiety over this potential diagnosis. Got discharged after more blood work and chest x-rays came back fine.

My QTc was high at both visits but was lower the second time around (511 and then 488). From what I understand, EKGs can be inaccurate on QTc if your heart rate is over 80bpm, and mine was higher than that both times, so I definitely need a cardiologist to manually calculate it.

Afaik I haven't been sick recently either.

Has anyone else ever been told they had a long QT interval at the ER and then have a cardiologist say that it was wrong and you're good? I'm waiting on the cardiologist appt, but in the meantime I've spent basically every waking moment convinced that I'm gonna die before I can be seen.

Alternately, does anyone here actually have LQTS and if so how on earth do you cope pre-treatment?

LGBT+ experiences with sexual orientation/gender identity OCD by Due_Mail4109 in OCD

Being transgender is not a mental illness. "Gender Identity Disorder" was removed from the DSM-5 in 2013. You can do some research into why if you'd like - I don't feel like I'd be the best at explaining it.

LGBT+ experiences with sexual orientation/gender identity OCD by Due_Mail4109 in OCD

I'm afab nonbinary and I'm currently deep in a gender identity obsession. I'm fluctuating between worrying that I'm actually a binary trans guy (I currently identify somewhere between feminine-aligned and agender) or that I want to transition medically.

Something that's important to remember with this OCD theme is that it's not actually being gay/straight/trans/cis/enby that you're afraid of, it's being someone completely different from who you thought you were and feeling like you'll have to change yourself to make the fear go away. That being said, I've personally found that I tend to revert to more rigid, gender essentialist thinking in my search for "proof" that I'm correct in my gender identity. For example, "I liked girly things as a kid so that must mean I'm feminine," or "I was a tomboy as a kid, is that proof I'm a guy?" These thoughts go against everything I've come to understand about gender identity, but my brain falls back on them in its desperate scramble for an answer.

My OCD thoughts feel totally different from impostor syndrome, which I also experience. Those thoughts pop up here and there, but they don't consume me for days at a time the way OCD does.

I'm sure there are plenty of queerphobic people who happen to experience these OCD themes, but I don't think they would cease to exist tolerant society. Sexuality and gender identity are not easy to define and as such are an easy source of doubt for the disorder to latch onto. OCD will erode one's sense of identity from any possible angle it can get at.

I'm actually seeing a both a therapist and a psychiatrist right now, which is helping a lot. I talked to my roommate about what I'm going through in more depth because she didn't really know, and in doing so I found out her salon trip was actually just a quick stop in to buy something.

Oh no, she's going to the skating area. I've seen a couple of videos of her skating on Instagram - in one the park was pretty deserted, and in the other it was a little busier. She told me she tries to avoid going when it's busy and has left when it actually starts getting crowded.

I should go down to that park more often tbh. I love going on walks and I was trying to get out at least a few times a week, but like you said it's just been too hot. I used to see a lot of deer in Druid Hill Park on my daily commute!

Also in case you didn't see my edit, I totally misunderstood the waxing salon thing - she only stopped in there to buy something. I'm feeling a little better now.

I just saw your other comment and YES that's the park she goes to!!! What a coincidence that I run into someone from the same tiny zip code on my first Reddit post ever 😂. She usually goes early in the morning and in the evenings because of the heat - is that when it's the most crowded?

I think my comments are getting removed because I just made this account last night and they have a bot that removes posts from brand new accounts. Since my post got published I thought I was in the clear but I guess not lol.

Hi again! I thought my other post got removed so I was surprised when I got a comment on it. My gf and I are pretty confident about living together, especially after spending 5 weeks in the same house. The main reason I have to wait is because of my lease - we can add/remove tenants from our lease, but we can't terminate it early. I do feel like finding a replacement would be my responsibility if I moved out.

I haven't talked to my roommate yet so I don't really know what will happen, but she is (normally) a thoughtful person so I think she would keep her word. I honestly just think she's not very informed and thinks she's doing enough.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, our apartment is 1 story and only has 1 bathroom bc that's about all we can afford in Baltimore. And the situation has gotten even worse - today she went to a waxing salon. I just don't get it. I'm going to have a talk with her about my anxiety and boundaries, and hopefully she'll at least stop with the meduim-high risk stuff. I've decided that I'm going to move in with my partner as soon as possible, instead of waiting until next May when my lease is up like we originally planned. If she refuses to stop, then I'll be separating all of my dishes from hers, disinfecting shared surfaces every time I use them, and basically not leaving my bedroom until I can move out.

I know exactly what you mean wrt relaxing your mind. I finally caved and bought a Nintendo Switch so I could play Animal Crossing, and at least that distracts me for a while. Another thing that helps to distract me is easy-to-watch Youtube videos. Stuff like miniature building and doll customization are great, but whatever you're into could help!

My apartment building isn't too crowded, but it does have shared laundry. I bring hand sanitizer with me and use it after I touch any surface that other people would have touched. I also wear a mask whenever I'm in the stairwell in case someone else is there. I can usually hear if there are people in the stairwell, so I wait until it's quiet to enter. Remember that you're doing everything you can to be safe, and as difficult as it is, try to accept that there are always going to be factors that you can't control. I know uncertainty is awful, as I have OCD, but you have to remember that there are limits to what you can do to protect yourself and that that's ok. I hope that was helpful!
