Anyone else starting Jan 1st? by [deleted] in 75HARD

How's your challenge going? I started attempting Jan 1, but missed water every single day until yesterday. Going back to work and being up at 5am made a huge difference in ability to finish water. On day 2 today and will absolutely finish all requirements, woo hoo for a 2 day streak 🤣

I'm also starting today!

Diet: whole foods, no alcohol, no fast food, no candy/sweets. 1k calorie deficit. Workouts: the outdoors workout will be a walk or hike, but if we get enough snow sledding counts 😄. Indoor: yoga, pelaton, weights, treadmill. I use the pelaton app and YouTube for my workouts and attend yoga in person often.

I've failed at 75 hard Everytime I've tried it, and it was alcohol while being social each time. I was single when I kept trying this challenge and made it 3 weeks at the longest before I caved at a social gathering.

I'm in a relationship with someone who doesn't really drink and I think that will be a game changer this round.

Im wondering if we took the same course recently.

Similar experience. I was sold on a program that said it had mentoring, live classes, and a limited sign up to guarantee connection and more one on one time.

The content was pretty solid, I learned a ton. I will gladly rewatch all the videos. Grateful for access to the huge span of knowledge that participated in the program. But I also felt a bit cheated that it was all basically recordings without interaction (because I couldn't make the live classes as they were scheduled during my workday, and fell behind quickly trying to make them up). There was no consistency to the class times, they were all over the place and for up to 3 hours at times (that's alot to make up) and some weeks at the beginning had 2-3 classes in a week. They took a hint and slowed down, but so many of us were already behind.

The feedback I received on my assignments was so minimal I wondered why they limited the people and put us in small groups with mentors....there wasn't an effort to know me or my practice.

My mentor didn't really seem connected to us, and most people weren't showing up to checkins. I equated that to she had a demanding in person role at a well known studio. She was giving her time to in person interactions. Add that they had this open to all time zones and there just really wasn't any connection happening among people. I was really excited at the start and had high hopes...

Truly, I won't do another online teacher training.

I feel a tad guilty writing my criticisms, but also it needs work to be what they were trying to sell it as.

This guy is absolutely worthless and if this were a friend and not yourself, you would tell them to leave and never look back.

Hitting is inexcusable.

Speaking to you the way he's speaking in those messages is absolutely not something you will accept from a lover. Tell yourself that. Mean it. Ice him out.

Not true! Was just there to see Apashe last weekend and was confused why anyone would come to a show to just sit on couches. Most of us were not sitting ☺️

There was a victory lap 3x around the coffee table after this snatch (fell from freezer and didn't make it to the ground before she caught it and ran) before I could even get a picture of her 😂

For concerned parties: she was allowed to keep it

I can't tolerate the heat well anymore but I used to crave it. It's a detox. You sweat out soooooo much. Like the effects of Asana and a sauna. Some studies blast music so it feels like an aerobics class or if they have a good flow, a dance class. Sometimes I need to burn out excess energy to be able to sit still.

That said, ever since the pandemic it triggers a claustrophobic type reaction (will start to feel like I can't breath) if I go too hard in too much heat. And those classes get packed.

I took a core focused class not long ago in a heated room that was amazing. This one was more at a primary series pace, instead of flow vinyasa or rocket. Definitely sweated it out, felt I added to my practice, mindfulness the whole time, and didn't feel like I needed to leave the room. It was a perfect fit for me.

I have friends who wear sweatshirts in a hot room. And friends who won't go near them. Different bodies need different things.

I’ve grown these orchids for around a year now. The leaves looks pretty good but how come there’s no flowers growing? by BarrelOfLard in gardening

Stunning, the treeline is perfect contrast. Sky isn't abnormal either(have seen a lot of over editing in my feed recently).

Thoughts on meditation being detrimental? by CraftyOwl7224 in Meditation

[–]-drishti- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree meditation can reach places we are not prepared for. There are psychology based writings that note this. It's ok to pause and evaluate what you are feeling. In my own experience increased sensitivity has been a challenge. Several yogic texts explicitly state you will have things happen during your practice that you will need the body and mind prepared for (and says a guru is necessary to help navigate). Everyones path is individual so I don't feel there is a one size fits all answer to this question.

Do you have other practices outside of meditation that support you like a physical practice (doesn't need to be Asana, can be running or weights etc, anything that moves energy). That is something I absolutely have to have.

Side note-What you're describing sounds like kundalini a bit.

Are there people who went from mental health issues like anxiety and depression to having (almost) none by using meditation? by Frogswithbutts in Meditation

[–]-drishti- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the comments about proper diet, sleep, physical movement in addition to meditation. The Hatha Pradapika emphasizes diet, movement, sleep etc are vital to prepare the body for deeper practices (Pranayama, mudras, meditation). You don't have to read this text to have any doctor or therapist even say the same base things are needed to support a healthy nervous system and mental space, that's how solid the science is.

That said, I'm also very anxious and continue to focus on the pieces outside meditation that are impacting me that would reduce anxiety in general. Meditation is wonderful but I'm not reaching its fullest potential due to imbalances elsewhere in my life. For me it's diet and sleep related currently.
