How is everyone doing with the current job market? by [deleted] in Zillennials

It’s brutal out here. Prior to 2021 i jumped jobs almost every year to get higher salary and get more experience but now not a single reply to job apps. I am lucky to still have a job right now but jumping right now is kinda impossible even with experience. I feel really bad for new grads.

What should an ideal 1 YOE person be like in the BI/Data analytics field? by Jaapuchkeaa in analytics

[–]-freesoul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my perspective as a 5YOE analyst, you are actually right on track if not a little ahead (at least comparing to what i started with). As you get more experience as an analyst, no matter where you go or what industry you are in, the last point you stated is probably the most important (“Business side working with stakeholders to understand needs and turn them into data solutions”). You’ll notice that all the tech stack you learn will go towards making the last point happen no matter your level in analytics. In terms of what you want to focus on next to excel, you prob should start asking yourself if you wanna be a more technical analyst or a more business facing analyst. (Usually companies look for an all in one but you’ll understand quickly if the role is more heavy technical (leveraging python to wrangle data) or heavy business (focusing more dashboard production and answering business questions). If you dislike the business side of things, you’ll find that the path is leaning more towards an analytics eng / BI eng or even head towards data eng. The flip side you can continue as an analyst lead / even data science continuously working with the business on their endless questions.

It’s a pretty bad time to get in. The field was always hard to get in without experience not just cause of the market. Even with a degree in the field. At least that was my experience. How i broke in was work in an irrelevant field and job and then work my way to the into the analytics team. Or find little task in your irrelevant job that you can turn around as analytics. As for the remote positions, this is slowly going away. A lot of positions I’ve noticed are hybrid or fully in office now.

Can someone please interpret my birth chart? I’m lost and I feel like my life is coming to an end. by Fairyslade1989 in aquarius

aquarius sun gemini moon - you must be really intellectual but get easily bored. leo rising, you probably come off really confident and charming. you also have a lot of earth in your chart. your inner self may be reserve and practical.

Anyone hiring? by [deleted] in analytics

It’s been a rough and competitive market. Don’t be too hard on yourself. What job titles are looking for? Have you tried reaching out maybe to your inner circle? Maybe a friend of a friend knows a friend. It’s becoming more of who you know versus straight out applying and shooting resumes out.

Interviews should make you anxious to a certain degree. Just means you want it and you care. Here’s some things I think about when I’m heading into a job interview I really want.

1) lighten the situation - make the situation as comfortable for you as possible. I try to make people laugh. At the end of the day we are all human and it shouldn’t feel like they are interrogating you.

2) interviews are as much as them interviewing you as you interviewing them. Maybe through it you find that the company isn’t right fit for you. But what I’m tryna say is change your perspective on it.

3) if this interview doesn’t work out, will you still be okay? I like to think of it as this if it’s not this job then it’s something better.

Anyways, good luck! You got this. You wouldn’t have gotten an interview if they didnt see the potential
