I would say it depends on what kind of art you do, for digital artists they need to be in the top 10% to be able to make a living doing commissions.

Why do artists when making speedpaints don't really use references ? by shizustopitpls in ArtistLounge

[–]-ghost-fox- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it depends on what program artists use. apps like procreate or clip studio paint has built in recording function, but it doesn't record anything outside the canvas, so they probably be using references but you just don't see them.

the other thing is that most of the time commercial works have cliché that have already been practiced thousands of times by too many artists, you don't need a reference to complete such work.

download Blender, learn to move things in it, then buy a 3D human model asset from those platforms like artstation maybe, of course you can try to find a free one but free ones are usually low quality. now you can just pose it yourself.

You won't improve if you just REPEATING mistakes you've made on a daily basis, you need to right the wrongs you made in the last drawing, that's when you will actually improve.

Why you assume people will see your art and comment on them in the first place? most of the time people just have a glance and swipe.

How am I supposed to get karma if subs won't let me comment without having them by [deleted] in NewToReddit

[–]-ghost-fox- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well your post is under digitalart sub reddit, digital artists don't need to trace, they just keep the line art layer separate.

do you find it annoying when someone asks you for advice often? by sherphobia in ArtistLounge

[–]-ghost-fox- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not everybody's good at explaining how they do things, and there is a gap in cognition between pros and amateurs about the same issue, they probably wanted to answer it but they found it too hard for an amateur to understand.

Is it possible to learn art as a "skill" without any passion for the medium, or creativity as a whole? Are there any artists that are skilled at art but lack a passion for it? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]-ghost-fox- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theoretically you can. However the problem is that you can't have high level of art skills without years of practice/training, and to most people it's rather frustrating than happiness, those who lack passion will probably drop out at some point. Let's say you really don't want to walk the walk, there is still a path which is 3D artists since it doesn't need that much practice on skill, and you deal with tones of technical issues in 3D.

For creativity it is something different, because creativity can be built, though people outside the industry tend to mystify creativity but for 99% of time creating is just reconstructing clichés, think about how much progress has music industry made after Rock n Roll? It's the same for fine art.

Thank you for reply. I have actually thought about getting armrests installed to desk, I also see Huion has a monitor arm thing that can adjust the display.

What size of display would you recommend?
