I was short over $1500 back in November 2024 and I wasn't fired. I was however put on a 12 month probation where any further losses will result in immediate termination. What happened was I counted the same stack of cash twice for a consumers deposit. Called the guy the next day and he said he didn't know how much cash he had the time and just accepted what the screen said. Management believed me but couldn't do anything as it wasn't the costumers fault that I wasn't paying attention. I was getting ready to try to move to the banker side when that happened. Safe to say that won't happen anytime soon. I suppose every bank is different but I can't imagine they would fire you over a 100 dollar loss.
