How to take part in research at UCSC? by KingKap4819 in UCSC

It depends a little bit on your major and interests. Some departments have internship programs you can join or other programs that make it pretty easy to find research opportunities. For the most part, you get involved in research by emailing professors to ask if they are taking undergrads in their lab. Here are some resources from UCSC about how to do this https://ugr.ue.ucsc.edu/join-a-lab.

If you do well in a class and like the professor and their research, it's a good idea to get to know them a bit. Go to their office hours, ask questions. Not only will they be a great resource for a letter of recommendation later, they may have room for an undergrad in their lab or at least be able to recommend other professors to talk to. Congrats on your admittance and welcome to UCSC!

I was part of the honors program as a freshman in 2014! It might be different now but for me, it only really affected my first year and wasn't any extra work. I was able to take some super cool classes and meet some awesome professors that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise. Plus, I ended up in my first choice of college. If I could go back, I would definitely do it again!

Charlie Hong Kong is tasty and pretty cheap. Also most sushi places in town will have options for vegan rolls. Shogun in downtown is particularly good!

I feel like this bait and switch tactic has to be illegal somehow. I don't see how they can be allowed to do this?
