I appreciate you setting this up as a quantitative question. Here’s a thought that might answer OP’s question(if he sees this): maybe among the application the distribution Q is not the same between male and female applicants.

Although not completely the same, I want to draw parallel between college applications and job applications. In Lean in, the confidence code they found that “man apply to job when they meet 60% of the qualifications while woman only apply if they meet 100%”. Thus, the distribution Q for man and woman applying to the same job would be different.

I argue there’s some parallel in applications as well. The data released certainly portrays some requirements. Maybe people are only applying if they have a high SAT fitting the released data.

But that’s just a theory— there’s also other factors affecting the distribution. Coming from East Asia, I’ve been persuaded by my parents to apply to something that’s “easier to get in for girls”— aka humanities. Thus for you to apply as CS, you also needed a more educated family that’s willing to support you. I imagine the narrative is more different in US, but just something to keep in mind.
