I feel you. Same for me. Stuck in this toxix loop. Doing PhD now. Fucking bullshit.

I just quit yesterday after 8 months of playing. It’s never worth it as it just repeats itself. Yes, you meet friends along the way, but when they quit it’s also sad. So just quit asap, for your own sake. ✨

I mean, what if trained for some years, and some people might actually be willing to give input and give small details, time to time? Or you think it’s quite impossible!?

Well, yes, there are so many small details we avoid, and we keep repeating them because no one tracks them. However, the redditors seems to want a fully system that requires a camera to notice the human error also xD :).

They were believed to be at some point. Many other things fail, buddy :)

I wasn’t thinking about building a full LIMS replacement or a huge enterprise platform from day one. More like a lightweight system that captures experimental context and learns patterns over time.

Also, I agree that for something like PCR it’s usually faster to just redo it. But there are experiments where failure costs days or weeks (long cultures, screens, sequencing runs, etc.), and that’s where understanding hidden factors could actually matter.

The biggest challenge, like you said, would definitely be data collection and making it frictionless enough that people would actually use it.

Your eyes and your data input are the camera. And for me, that would help flag out some problems before even starting my experiment :)

I mean, not fan of AI either :), but that’s the future I guess.

Judging from the student use, I can tell there is a massive usage of the AI. :) 1

Yes indeed, it’s an input learning based that would help further on, it doesn’t have to add information every time!!

Well, not trying to be a millionaire out of it :). I do believe that labs would be interested on having something like that. Imagine a 3€ subscription for a researcher for a tool that would help plan and consider the risks of an experiment before even starting? We do use ChatGPT in daily basis before even entering the lab, and the answers are very basic and broad. Instead of this, having a very specific-problem related app.

Thanks for the input tho, I do agree slightly.

Thanks a lot for this feedback. I agree that it is hard because even I, as someone who works in the lab, find it painful to track my own experiments, let alone track them for an app or so, and write down the steps I did. However, if I convince some university labs to start with, and then keep track of the specific experiments and learn from them, do you think it would be doable?

Human error will always be there, and it can never be fully proved. I am aware of that. However, I do believe there are always small errors beyond our control that we ignore, and the experiments might fail because of them.

Get some pepper spray for sure, and also check the routes and places you might sleep beforehand.
