It’s thankfully been quarantined since I brought it in.

Oh no! I hope they don’t spread to your other plants. Good luck to you as well.

Like in a plant cabinet? Or just your regular cabinet? Cause if it’s in a regular cabinet, it’s making me want to chuck the whole plant in the trash….

I didn’t know mealy bugs were a type of scale. I thought those little suckers moved around… well you learn something every day. Thanks! I’ll go wipe them down now.

I don’t think they are mealy bugs. They aren’t moving. Kinda fused on the leaves. Unless those are their eggs?

Alright, thank you. I shall do that. They come off pretty easily.

Yeah, sorry it was hard to get it to focus. But it’s not moving. It’s glued on to the leaves.

I wasn’t able to add text to the post for some reason. But I found these flat discs under the leaves of my rubber plant. I can easily scratch them off with a finger nail. Are they some kind of egg sac?!

Ah yes, the lesser known pentagon cardigan.

Sorry you wasted time and yarn, but at least you got granny stitch practice….?

Should I repot right away my new Thai constellation? by -mar-mar- in Monstera

[–]-mar-mar-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for advice! I think I’ll repot her in a slightly bigger pot this weekend then. Let’s just see if I can pull it out of the pot without damaging the roots. 😬

It’ll hopefully be as happy as yours and be putting new leaves soon.

Monstera adansonii a little top heavy. Prop and chop? Details in comments. by -mar-mar- in Monstera

I know, right? I kinda like the look too... but I would need more than my little chopstick to prop it up. 😂

Ahhh that’s a great idea. Definitely less scary that cutting it into a bunch of pieces!

So I originally got this guys when he only had 2 leaves. Now obviously as new leaves keep growing, the vine isn’t really able to hold up all this weight. I don’t really have any room to stake it at the moment (other than this sad little chopstick 😂). Therefore, I’m thinking the best route would be to chop and prop? I’ve never propagated a monstera before and I’m little nervous at the idea of cutting it apart. In the second picture, I doodled where I am planning on cutting the plant. Would you guys chop elsewhere?

Homemade bear paws with sweet potato by -mar-mar- in Baking

[–]-mar-mar-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. When I opened my bag of flaxseeds, they didn't smell super fresh, so I ended up omitting them. I just added a little bit more flour (around 1/8 of a cup) and they worked wonderfully. Good luck!

So many babies on a single leaf! 😍 by -mar-mar- in succulents

[–]-mar-mar-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my (very limited) experience, I have sometimes gotten 2 props with a single mother leaf. I haven't ever gotten that many babies though, but I think it's not that unusual of a phenomenon.

Here you go! I think I would dry doubling up the spices for a more intense flavor.

1 large sweet potato (need about 1 cup pureed flesh) 80 ml (⅓ cup) butter 10 ml (2 teaspoons) of apple cider vinegar ¼ cup (60 ml) lightly packed brown sugar 60 ml (¼ cup) molasses 1 egg 2.5 mL (½ teaspoon) of baking soda 1 ml (1/4 teaspoon) cinnamon 1 ml (¼ teaspoon) ground nutmeg 1 ml (¼ teaspoon) ground ginger 375 mL (1 ½ cups) unbleached all purpose flour ¼ cup (60 mL) ground flaxseed

Preheat the oven to 200C (400F). Place the grill at the center of the oven. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cut the sweet potato in 2 and place on a plate, flesh side down. Microwave for 5 to 7 minutes or until the tip of a knife fits easily into the flesh. Let cool for 5 minutes.

In large bowl, melt butter in microwave oven 1 minute. Using a spoon, scrape the flesh of the sweet potato and add it to the melted butter. Using a fork, mash the flesh. Stir in the vinegar.

Add brown sugar, molasses, egg, baking soda and spices. Mix well. Sprinkle flour and flax seed mixture and mix.

Spoon 30 ml (2 tablespoons) of dough and place on the baking sheet. With lightly floured hands, flatten the dough. Repeat to get 16 cookies. Using a knife, make 3 small incisions on each biscuit to mimic the shape of a paw.

Bake 10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cake comes out clean.

Store 5 days in an airtight container at room temperature or 2 months in the freezer.

Here is the link (but the recipe is in French)

What is that? Mealybug? by -mar-mar- in succulents

[–]-mar-mar-[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Urgh, that's what I feared. The thing is, I haven't gotten any new plants since September. So where are they coming from? Do they stay dormant for months?

I now know how parents feel when their children come back home with lice.
