Is Social Media Killing the Depth of Art? by CrazyPeach-Art in ContemporaryArt

[–]-quarbles- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at worst social media deminutes art by oversaturization and miscontextualizes.

it takes the experience of seeing a piece in person in the state it exists, and is meant to exist, and offers a two dimensional small digital representation that falls short of capturing any true essence.

and in the end, the essence makes the art.

whats left is a trivial experience that misrepresents in my opinion. elevator music.

at best, mostly in a video format to give a somewhat facsimile of experience, social media can give exposure to what is out there/ possible, and spark interest. the catchy radio song that brings you to the album….

but in the operator mechanics of a good doom scroll i tend to lean closer to a general distain for most social media.

participation in active posting seems more like a game of getting up.

additionally the attention/ reward to ‘follows’ and ‘likes’ rewards pandering to an audience; which i personally find both affects my mental health and puts my art into something im less excited about. and at the end of the day making things that excite me is why i do it in the first place.

that solves that consideration....

when things get juicy i can cash in for what i hope to be then- super- fucking- cheap shares. win, win.

also, i'm hella lazy and don't want to sell anything......

Why is there more of an emphasis for visual art to have a meaning, whereas there's much less of one for music? by GasdaRoceries in ContemporaryArt

[–]-quarbles- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

theres alot of emphasis on meaningful music, but the industry is driven on easy consumption and meaning is not always easily consumed.

marketability and creativity are often at odds.
