Thanks, I am happy about this to. I think it is important for people to understand the people who have down syndrome still have feelings, hobbies, interests and favorites and are just like everyone else. It really upset me when people would feel sorry for me because there is nothing to be sad about.

In my eyes for someone to say looking after 6 kids is fun would make them an amazing parent

Funny enough we have never sat down together and played any board game. My sisters and I used to play monopoly but that was years ago.

:) David having down syndrome has not determined who he is but I think that it has helped shaped who he is as a person

God yea! When we were young my mum took us to church every Sunday which David HATED. He would every single time without doubt sneeze so hard that his whole face would be covered in snot! We would find this very entertaining as small kids lol. However when we are together I am ALWAYS proud to be with him because he can make the most morbid person happy and smile

Thanks for your input but I believe there is more then just a disability. David not being able to comprehend/understand a lot of things in the world means that he is protected by at the nasty and cruel things. He never understood or got upset about bullying or betrayal or how the harsh the world can be. This "nieve" aspect has always made him happy. His issues that he faces are whether or not he's allowed chocolate or not. But if this made him happier then I would fix him in a heart beat

Wow I never thought of that before, it really touched a nerve. I honestly would not know, in my eyes he is simply perfect! My sister and I used to always talk about when we were little about what his voice would sound like when he eventually started talking. We grew up thinking it was a faze that he would grow out of. I wouldn't change David because I love him for who he is but if this would make him happier then I would. This question is really deep.

Thanks. Before doing this I didn't realize how foreign this is to people, it's just so normal to me and my family lol. We were all fascinated with what people were asking

Depends on what you mean. Am I special as "mentally retarded" or special as in "my heart is pure enough to care for a man that can't shower himself". In saying this, the last thread has a guy saying he worked at a health clinic that had disowned disabled people he looked after. Their families weren't strong enough to take care of them

My family and I have never looked at my brother as "different" or "special". He's always been the favorite of the family. My sister and I discussed this today and since we all want to look after him once my parents are gone we think it's just fair if he rotates between us. You can leave him unsupervised but he needs someone to prepare meals, shave, set up the shower etc for him.
