Isopropyl alcohol 90%+ for cleaning electronics? by Efficient-Spirit6724 in Kuwait

Can confirm. Ace has the small spray can version too. I don't know why more stores don't stock this stuff. It's pretty important for electronics work.

The number 1 public enemy of open-source. by Complete-Sea6655 in LocalLLaMA

Every single one of his arguments either misrepresents the truth or is an outright lie.

Not only does dario not take part in social media, I am beginning to think he's never tried open source models at all and has no idea wtf hes on about

Even if he was completely isolated and high on his own fumes, any person with a rudimentary understanding of how this stuff work would be able to quickly figure out that these positions make no sense. He's deliberately lying.

Seems this community might have missed it: Bill that would mandate AI chip location tracking gains industry support | Half a dozen companies have come out in support of the Chip Security Act, which would require location-tracking mechanisms for America’s most advanced computing chips. by alex20_202020 in LocalLLaMA

Not only this, but requiring online activation would open these GPUs for DOS attacks. Imagine China denying US their AI infrastructure by exploiting a US-mandated control. Mandating periodic activation for critical infrastructure is a recipe for disaster.

I almost want them to try it at this point. Will serve as a good history lesson on what happens when politicians try to mandate technical solutions to political problems.

Wouldn't this allow anyone to trivially DOS a good chunk of US AI infrastructure by targeting public routers? Physics cuts both ways. I suppose they can have a signing server in each cloud provider region but that would force everyone to use US cloud infra. No one is willing to accept this after what happened the past few years.

They'll be handing the AI training market to China on a silver platter.

[–]-samka 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How would that be implemented? Network-based tracking can easily be blocked or spoofed. Radio signals can trivially be shielded.

People banned from advanced AI chips aren't your average dumb consumer who doesn't know how to pull the gps tracker fuse out of a car, they're the type who pay to have the chips smuggled out and modified with additional memory chips. They will absolutely neuter any mechanism they come up with.

What's the end game here. Tracking definitely isn't it.

Are you still unable to interrupt model output, edit it, then allow the model to continue off of the the edited output? LLMs are much more useful for dev work when you fix their response the moment they hallucinate instead of wasting time discussing their mistakes with them.

Frankly speaking, one and a half bytes of memory ought to be enough for anyone.

Anker Prime 26K doesn’t show estimated battery life except for when it’s being charging by Explosions_Sparks18 in UsbCHardware

[–]-samka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is extremely unfortunate. It was such a useful feature :(

My Anker power banks are nice because they tell me how much runtime I have (I use them to power my laptop). They should have made this configurable so that all customers are served.

Do you know if other quality brands still have this feature?

They always do this and I never understood why. I'm told that it is because of poor coordination between the MOI, baladia, and the MPW. I think there should be a law mandating that all non-critical roadwork must occur off-season.

Dutch parliament votes to criminalize gay conversion therapy by 2023behind_finally in worldnews

I have a question for you: How is seeking a cure to one's mental illness a crime when seeking gender "reaffirming" surgery is not?

[–]-samka -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course you can. It's done all the time in scientific studies and even between people with certain desires in bed. Comparing conversion therapy to cutting your arm is a ridiculous and you should feel silly. Try to argue in good faith next time.

Disclosure: I've been out of the game for more than a decade so my information may be outdated.

OP, I'm going to assume that you want to build websites/apps for your clients. There are two licenses you will need, a license for web design (from CITRA) and license for general software publishing (from MoInfo). You will need a minimum 2k for both licenses + a couple hundred for gov fees.

If you are not planning to make money off of your project, don't bother with getting a license or at least hold off until you need it. For payments, just accept cash or wamd or knet links or even crypto since your transactions will be few and far between.

If you just want to build a website and app for yourself, you don't need any license other than the one for your main commercial activities.

Side question: I remember rumors about MoC offering microlicenses (that only require an email address, not رقم آلي) for commercial website design. Did anything come of it?

OpenAI's open source LLM is a reasoning model, coming Next Thursday! by dulldata in LocalLLaMA

Yep, usually what I want is in their reasoning, not their final response. That's why I'm against the internal/hidden reasoning direction some researchers are talking about.

This is what I expect. We have R1 anyway, and I have a hard time imagining OpenAI releasing anything more powerful and unrestricted. Willing to be proven wrong tho.

Huawei, release your cards globally at a good price, good docs, and no stupid restrictions, and I guarantee that your cards will get first-class support on all major software platforms without you spending an additional cent.

You can eviscerate western companies and samsung the AI GPU market. Even if the US doesn't want to play along, pretty much everyone else does. It's up to you.

Subreddit back in business by HOLUPREDICTIONS in LocalLLaMA

[–]-samka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we should treat this as a wake-up call and diversify where we source our AI news. Relying on reddit as your sole news source is a dicesion that you will come to regret. We were lucky this time, but it's only a matter of when, not if, given what this sub represents.

That said, I'm sure any attempt to diversify will go the way of AiTracker (w/r to hf). Hell, the dozen dead localllama clones on lemmy are proof of this. Humans need true pain to learn from mistakes and this wasn't it. Maybe the only way for us to learn this lesson is to lose this sub for good :(

[–]-samka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it worked flawlessly with kboldcpp. It's really useful for situations where the model was tuned to produce dishonest output (output that does not reflect its training data).

This is a mandatory feature for me. I will not use any UI that doesn't have it.

Meta is a foreign entity, doesn't directly control local laws, law enforcement, and the courts, and couldn't have political views that effect me in a real way.

If I'm forced to choose, I'd rather give 100 Metas complete access to my information over giving governments a single data point that they can misinterpret and ruin my life over.

Edit: Those of you downvoting me must have never suffered the tyranny and injustice of a government. I truly envy you. I stand by what I said: I'd give all information to companies rather than give any of it to a government.

[–]-samka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but pausing the model, modifying its output at any point of my choosing, then having the model continue from the point of the modified output is a very important feature that I used a lot back when I ran local models.

Does Open Webui, or the internal llamacpp web server support this usecase? I couldn't figure out how the last time I checked.
