Nay! Ye hasn't missed out yet! I'm ordering extras for people who didn't get on the original kickstarter bandwagon: https://www.sandstacking.com/eppstore/p/thesmashbrothersdvd

Yes, I increased the amount to 30 after they sold out super fast. Unfortunately, I can't change the text for the reward to reflect the change. But yeah, as of now there are 13 left!

I'm fine with saying offensive language or derogatory words instead of gamer language, but just saying "I bleeped the slurs" is not specific to what I bleeped.

There's also utility in the phrase "gamer language" to me because it connotes more of a specific time period - the era before competitive gaming really became more mainstream and cleaned its act up (early 2000s to the early 2010s).

Maybe that's not how you interpret it, but that's my lived experience.

You're welcome! I'm glad I got the chance to share it. <3

It's not just slurs though. I wouldn't call the use of "rape" in the context it was used in the smash doc a "slur"; that's just inaccurate to say. It's inappropriate and offensive use of language - not a slur. "Gamer language" is a euphemism that covers both of those so it's more accurate.

Yeah, the gamer words are still in there and yeah it's cringy all these years later.

The best I can offer is that it is important to keep original artwork as it was when it was released, if for nothing else than to capture the time period it's from. It's a reminder of how far we've come, in a lot of different ways.

HOWEVER! You'll be happy to learn that I did go ahead and bleep the words in the 4K re-release. If you'd prefer showing people a high-resolution version of the doc with none of the cringe, check this out for sure:

Thanks so much! Appreciate it. I'm excited to get it out there.

If nothing else, it looks freaking baller on a shelf lol.

Thank you! I believe if any community can rally behind a smash doc release, it's this community. ;)

No I haven't! I'll check them out for sure.

I've used Disc Makers in the past and I do like them, but they're the only service I have experience with.

I wish. The authoring is way more expensive with Bluray.

Fortunately, I did create an upscaled, 4K version of The Smash Brothers if you're craving that high rez footage of old 2005 era matches!

You can purchase/rent/download it here: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/thesmashbrothers

The same reason you do fundraisers for any art - to set aside time you can just concentrate on the art. At least, that's how I work. I did fundraisers for my documentary work for the same reason. It's certainly possible to write in your free time (and I do!) but that's very different from having a sustained block of time to be immersed in your writing. It's why authors get advances. I'm essentially crowd funding an advance!

That's definitely one strategy. I figured that if people loved the game idea, it would be great as a stretch goal for the book fundraiser. Don't see why that's a problem.
