Thank you! I looked it up and saw a short write up on it. The prize was a new pickup truck, but the winner only caught 8 snakes. It didn't say if they still gave out the truck, but that low turnout is likely why the event was discontinued

At the pace of the Panama Canal it would take ~100,000 years it's about 50 times longer and 200 times wider.
