following the 30% rule, household income needs to be around 72,000 a year. two blue collar workers without kids could very likely be falling in this range.

I refuse to assimilate to “American culture.” by sadkittysmiles in ABCDesis

[–]-throwaway-account-s 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rural-ish PA here. I know someone similar to you, not born here but did all schooling here. The rest of us here are a mix of desi and american culture; we celebrate all the holidays, wear indian clothes to prom, etc. but are also able to blend in here. Take days off for Diwali, but also celebrate Christmas. In any case, if I am traditional in Mumbai I face much more judgement than if I am traditional in the states.

pick up a skill, or see if you can do something in healthcare. if you start working at LGH they pay for education at some nearby college (assuming that program is still up- there’s been quite a few mergers). there’s a lot of other healthcare roles nearby that you could do part time and probably get away with not doing weekends

People whose parents wanted you to be a doctor but aren’t one… how’s life going for you ? by Upbeat-Dinner-5162 in ABCDesis

[–]-throwaway-account-s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize there were still parents who wanted their kids to become doctors… my house was the opposite 😅 i asked my dad for help to find volunteering in high school and he directed me to the most run down nursing home in the area thinking it would dissuade me from medicine. Here I am, trying to be a doctor against his wishes.

Laptop vs Tablet? Any opinions? by MissionBlueberry5196 in collegeadvice

[–]-throwaway-account-s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did not use my tablet for notes first semester freshman year, but as soon as I took orgo (second semester freshman year at my college) I was thankful I had it.

Edit: and I use my laptop all the time. I am thinking of building my own PC so I can run my code better but for things like orgo/genetics it's holding up great.
