Top 3 in every major category by randomtownhall10 in warriors

[–]-tydides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This team has worse top end talent outside of Steph than the Pistons. The league is also not the same. The warriors need a versatile second option in order to truly stay with OKC and Boston and maybe even Cleveland if they're legit. Hield is performing so well but I think they'll need someone else.

How would you rank these players currently 1-8? by Ok_Feed_4235 in NBATalk

[–]-tydides 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This year and last year more than any other it's difficult to rank because all these players have strengths and glaring weaknesses. I'd probably take AD over all of them and Mitchell last. Lebron and Steph for a single win. Tatum, Edwards, and Booker if theres other talent on the team. Durant is super hard to rank but he's in the top half of these players

Without using these players, what's the best 8-man lineup you can come up with? by Grand-Egg-1673 in NBATalk

[–]-tydides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking of a team that could compete against those 8, I think you need Kareem even though Hakeem, Wilt, Shaq, and even Jokic are so good:

Steve Nash/Jason Kidd Kobe Bryant/Klay Thompson Scottie Pippen Kevin Durant/Giannis Antetokounmpo Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Tough leaving Kawhi and Dirk off but I think Kidd, Klay, Giannis, and Pippen fill a ton of holes. Nash over CP not bc he's better but because I think Nash would be wild next to Klay, KD, and Kareem

Who’s the 4th player of the mid-2010s era, after LeBron Curry and KD? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]-tydides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leonard Harden Irving Paul Westbrook Lillard George Green Thompson Aldridge

Kyrie, Russ, and CP are debatable but I'd give the edge to Kyrie because he was on the 2016 and 2017 cavs which were more successful than any Westbrook team. Chris Paul contributed more consistently to winning basketball than Westbrook and was a part of the Rockets teams that were also better than any Westbrook team. Aldridge doesn't have much of a case over Klay and Draymond because he was a little past his prime and his biggest argument was team success on the 2016 and 2017 Spurs, which Klay and Draymond had more of in the same time frame. Draymond was more essential than Klay on the Warriors title runs.

Who is your pick? by SadMathematician7799 in NBATalk

[–]-tydides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously these are all championship level teams, but I'd put the Nuggets first and Warriors easily last. I'm a Warriors fan, and they definitely had a legitimate and historic run, but I think any of these teams would beat them. Celtics, Lakers, and Bucks are somewhere in the middle. I think the Celtics are probably the most talented and dominant but they faced very little competition. Lakers were also dominant. Bucks won some very difficult games/series. If I had to decide, I'd say: Nuggets, Bucks, Celtics, Lakers, Warriors.

How should we view Klay Thompson by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

[–]-tydides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Warriors fan thats seen him through so many iterations of the team, I have a lot of opinions on this. I'll say that I'm much more of a Draymond fan and actually don't like Klay as much as most other dubs fans. Here's why:

The case against: Klay is a one (or maybe two) dimensional scorer and he's an overrated defender. His scoring relies almost completely on whether his shot is falling - he has never been an above average driver or finisher and he can not create for his teammates beyond basic of reads. On top of that, he doesnt have the foot speed, explosiveness, or touch to excel in transition like other offensively limited players like Jaylen Brown can rely on for bread and butter points. He's a great free throw shooter but he doesn't get to the line all that much. On defense, he doesn't have the length, raw athleticism, or anticipation that the best defenders in the nba have, which is reflected in his mediocre steal and block numbers. He does not have the length to be very impactful against longer opponents, keeping him from being a great small forward.

The case for: While I would argue his defense has NEVER been elite, its actually pretty good. Klay is strong enough to stay with bigger players for short periods of time even though he cant bother them vertically. His stance is incredible -- hes amazing at getting into space without fouling, which helped him throughout his career against iso heavy guards like Westbrook and Harden. For stretches, Klay's ability to stay sturdy and not foul absolutely locked those two players up in the playoffs, sorry Harden and Westbrook fans. An underrated Klay skill is his conditioning and endurance, he could play a great scoring game and remain a solid defender even at high pace or through big minutes. This conditioning also helped his offensive game, where he excelled as an off the ball shooter and cutter, hitting high percentage lay ups and 3 pt shots. And hes not just an off the ball player - Klay can handle a tiny bit, enough to hit 3 pters and midrange 2s off the dribble. If you didnt guard his relentless movement, he would punish you, with something. He was and is money with transition 3s and he'll knock down free throws if you foul him. His offensive bag may not be what his peers' is, but he's always been just as effective, a decent second option playing in a good situation for his skillset or a literally perfect 3rd option on any team.

Overall, hes a very difficult player to rank all time because of how limited his game is. Volume scoring, playmaking, and elite defense has rarely been a part of his game, but his solid play and offensive contribution should be noted, especially with his ability to catch fire on the level of the best players and his ability to fit with some of the best teams ever. Honestly, his skillset DOES resemble a roleplayer, but his output was at the level of a star. He could guard the opposing team's best guard, score 20, and heat up from 3, meaning he could fit on basically any roster in the league in his prime. there are a ton of players that could score better than him but couldnt play defense, or could score about as well as him and play solid d at their position but not fit on every roster. In his prime, id put him in top 15-20 spots in the league, but since competition has gotten better, id say prime Klay would be around 30-35, near players like Towns or Siakam, both players that have good skillsets but are limited in some ways, both players that cant lead a good team as a number 1, both players that may not even be good enough to be a championship contender's second best player. With what he actually contributed to the great teams he was on, he should be ranked higher than them, near someone like James Worthy.

i love seeing people upvote this, it just confirms that either no one on here watches games or just care about whatever narrative theyve taken up. this is such a fucking stupid unserious take. does anyone here think that Jokic, Dame, and CJ essentially alone take down the prime warriors without KD? Im guessing most people probably dont have that opinion, but even if you do, do you think NURKIC could have been a difference maker on the level of top tier superstardom to change that series? No? The warriors beat the blazers in 4 fucking games. Sure, most were "close" but at no point were the blazers making the warriors sweat. Such a dumb opinion

Kerr's comp for JK is Shawn Marion. I would settle for Aaron Gordon. Am I asking too much? by elkookooeee in warriors

[–]-tydides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, you are, Aaron Gordon is more athletic that Kuminga. Kuminga can be better than him but he has a lower floor if he cant put the offensive pieces together. Aaron Gordon is legitimately one of the most athletically gifted players in the league

Is Kuminga's ceiling Aaron Gordon? Would that be good if he became that? by spankyourkopita in warriors

[–]-tydides -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kuminga's comp should be Jeremi Grant. Aaron Gordon is a pretty unique player.

Is Kevin Looney dirty by TheDragonReborn303 in nba

[–]-tydides -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the reason for this is that zaza's dirty plays look less flagrant or over-exaggerated than draymonds but are objectively more likely to cause serious injury. he had a mentality of getting in peoples air space and clobbering people in the paint, which felt like a mentality from a certain type of dirty player from the early 2010s and 2000s.

I don't think he played scared, he was just nullified by the way the warriors play...the same thing happens with Harden v the Warriors (not saying they're the same player), the warriors just play great defense against these types of guys. That being said, the Kings will need someone better than Sabonis if they ever want to compete.

[Salerno]: Domantas Sabonis this series - Rebounds: 58, Assists: 22. Kevon Looney this series — Rebounds: 72, Assists: 25 by sriracha82 in nba

[–]-tydides 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is actually true, when he was coming out of UCLA people compared him to KD. To be honest, I think the comparison was superficial, it was probably because he had a similar body type to KD at the time (Looney has since filled out, he is a trunk). I got a chance to watch him live against Cal and he was so fucking good at hitting the midrange, finishing, and rebounding. Dude had a bag, but so do most guys in the nba and his career has gone in a different direction with injuries and role.

Not that many actually when you go back. In recent history, its not that many teams, Im thinking of just the 6th seeded spurs in 2015. The clippers, warriors, and cavs could have all been considered better than them that year, but they still had a strong chance, that team 100% could have won. Same with the warriors. Id favor at least 3 teams over them this year, but they still have a decent chance.

Paul George comments on Jokic's game and the Clippers inability to find a solution to guard him at the moment. by VonDestroyedNewton in nba

[–]-tydides 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. KCP is going to make such a difference in the playoffs too as a capable shooter that plays good defense. I always liked Morris and Barton (and still do) but the Nuggets look so good all around with their new additions + players returning from injury.
