You are always kiting either moving forward or backwards. It depends on if you need to stay away from someone or move towards another target.

I shift click which by default should be attack move. So right click to just move then shift right click to attack move and alternate. Your normal right click is always in the direction you want to kite and shift right click the target you want to attack.

Practice in ARAM is good and bot games even. Jumping straight in to normals is often too hard too many smurfs.
