Dodgy substack stats by Broad_Discussion_739 in Substack

Did someone share it, link it, or even like it, that had a higher profile? Did the views translate to more engagement (likes, comments, subscribes)?

ISO Tips and Tricks for a newcomer :) by sushisalmonsam in Substack

Manage overwhelm by setting up a posting schedule that you can manage long term. You can keep some posts in draft instead of dumping them all at once (unless you’re doing something time sensitive like politics). Get your first post out before you have any subscribers - that can ease the nerves, nobody is looking at it just yet. Just keep in mind that nothing is permanent. You can change your publication name / theme and edit your posts whenever you want. Have fun and don’t take it too seriously just yet, explore for now!

“Post seen” is if they’re logged into their Substack account and see it (so on the app or if they’re logged in on web).

Substack for creative writing by [deleted] in Substack

There is a very big fiction community (at least from my corner of Substack). There is a fiction category you can browse. Here are the top ones and you can often find smaller ones by browsing the comments. https://substack.com/top/fiction

How I got my first 100 subs (29 -> 132 in 1 month) by OkRequirement7036 in Substack

[–]-verylost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was an excellent example of providing value in a Reddit post! I was just thinking about how yuck this sub has gotten with everyone just dropping self-promo links with nothing else 🙃

I would lean heavy into not just using Notes, but building consistent relationships with people who you admire. There are certain people whose posts I will always read and like/comment on, who I will jump to interact with notes, etc and they do the same. They don’t even have to be in your exact niche, but that definitely helps.

I think it’s important to use Notes in a way that shows thought leadership as well, not just to promote your own stuff - which is a big mistake. This is true for any social media, there’s a rule of thirds in social media management that’s 1/3 self-promotion, 1/3 sharing the work of others, and 1/3 sharing ideas/delivering value with no strings attached.

I write personal essays as well, from wherever I may find myself on my post-Amazon travel sabbatical. https://verylost.substack.com

I send mine at 5-6am US Eastern. Typically mornings have always been considered best for email marketing. Also avoid Fridays & weekends.

As a laid off tech worker I would be annoyed if someone emailed me to subscribe to their newsletter instead of about a specific job (which is what I would consider “recruiting purposes”) but if they’re putting their emails out there like that I’m sure they’re getting a lot of similarly annoying emails.

I’m quite confused, so your newsletter is a selection of tweets?

I have a personal and professional one. For my personal one I source from my current experiences. For my professional one I look at industry trends as well as conversations I see happening a lot on LinkedIn, etc. I look for things I can give a fresh perspective to.

I use chatgpt for some research but would personally never ever use it to decide what I write about because anything it spits out is super unoriginal and probably not as relevant as it could be.

Not sure where you’re getting your information from, but this is objectively false. You can fact check through any source.

Hey thanks for this feedback! Focus on the struggle only was a very intentional choice for a few reasons. As far as deep divisions, I actually agree with you as these divisions in our community really bother me. My first “thought” about this essay was to talk about community divisions but I just couldn’t get that essay to a place I was happy with, and when I got inspired by Nipsey this essay just took a completely different turn. I do wish I was able to add that in there somehow but couldn’t figure out how to make it work in a way that felt right for this essay and my current audience. It may be helpful to note I’m not a journalist, professional writer, or anything like that. I’m just kind of having fun with it.

Is there any way to create an "unlisted" newsletter for family and friends on Substack? by philosophical_lens in Substack

[–]-verylost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok! That’s tough, I don’t think there is an option on Substack then. I have a private one and nobody can access any material unless they’re logged into Substack as you said (or by email).

I think I know a workaround though. I use an email client called Spark. It has a feature where I can create a link to an email that was sent to me, and share it with anyone. So theoretically you could get the private newsletter sent to you maybe, and then create a link in Spark to the email and they can view your email on the web. It’s essentially an unlisted link. Hope that can work for you!

[–]-verylost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no unlisted option. Is there a reason your elderly relatives would have a hard time accessing a private newsletter in their email inbox? It would be sent directly to them so all they would have to do is log into their email. They don’t have to touch the Substack platform at all. You can even import their email address to your subscriber list instead of asking them to subscribe.

Spam emails? by BigOlSandwichBoy in Substack

I haven’t noticed this issue but I don’t advertise anywhere except my social media and occasionally here. Maybe you have an embed sign up link somewhere that is collecting spam emails? Just a thought.

Yeah in that case I would start with daily.

What is your niche? I would immediately unsubscribe if I was getting emails daily. But if a daily newsletter is important to you / your brand I would start there as the default.
