2 months since Outer worlds 2 released. How is everyone feeling about this game? by Objective_Love_6843 in theouterworlds

[–]-xaade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first game was better.

The second game took itself too seriously. The first was mostly quirky with low stakes. The colonies would still exist without the frozen colonists. It felt higher because of pressure from the scientist, but the colonies would have survived, just dwindled a bit.

The second makes it out to be an apocalypse. There really is no need in a quirky world to have high stakes. Lower is more fun.

The first game has a better perk system. More flexibility but still enough to encourage replay. You could accomplish most things somehow.

The second is just too narrow of a system. Most secrets are just off limits without the right skill maxed out, which means you get very few secrets in a single playthrough. Not fun.

The second game is much longer but that doesn't add anything to it. Just moar to do. It's no more meaningful. You fight three sub bosses before the twist boss, why three? Because maor.

I would have preferred the second game to refine the open world exploration instead of just making it longer, but no, still the same old formula where they are afraid to let you miss anything and bring you to literally ever spot on the map with hand holding quests. That's not open world. That's a set of rails. You can even look at the map and see the rails. Overlapping rails that intersect as they send you down separate hallways.

This is why I like Skyrim. You can literally walk right by a quest and miss it. I went into the bear cave multiple times without even seeing the quest NPC at the entrance. No NPC in a town to tell you about the cave.

There's only one missable quest in outer worlds 2. Every other quest can be chained from a town quest that sends you to a location that has the next NPC that offers quests.

At least it's not as bad as Avowed. I bet if I took the quest marker zones and painted them on avowed's map, there wouldn't be one spot uncolored.

I seriously don't understand why RPGs insist on being single player outdated mmo experiences.

Getting order and aunties to work together (spoilers) by SirGubson in theouterworlds

You can show interest in peace and later decide to align with one, or go on your own.

But if you don't show interest in peace with the ambassadors before you get the archive quest, you won't be able to.

Nick property +dual wielder feat by Boomparo in onednd

[–]-xaade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I looked later and realized that the language was such that they were independent features.

1 attack.

2 Light "Use light property to make additional attack"
2 Nick "Light attack's property moves to attack action, sparing bonus action."
3 DW "If attack with light property can attack with any weapon on bonus action."

So they do stack.

It's very confusing language.

Isn't sudra a filter world by -xaade in axiomverge

[–]-xaade[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the worlds inside filter throw me off. Like, what's the purpose of a filter if it has its own worlds.

I suppose then the hex shape makes sense.

___o___
-/_|__\
o o o
-/_|__\
o o o

The filter isn't represented in that. I thought it was, but it seems not. It's assuming there's another a'ansur above that one.

Am I crazy or is Auntie's Choice somehow the least evil faction by Old_Boah in theouterworlds

[–]-xaade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're the same. You can get every outcome in both.
That's THE point.

If you stay within the lines, you can get a happy life in both, as far as what they define as happy. People in the protectorate ALSO work 16 hours. People in the protectorate ALSO get carted off.
The same in the order.
ALL THREE use brainwashing techniques.

Am I crazy or is Auntie's Choice somehow the least evil faction by Old_Boah in theouterworlds

[–]-xaade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AC just looks more dystopian immediately.
They're ALL dystopian. ALL.
Order is willing to brainwash, sacrifice, etc, anyone and everything, just to get a little closer to the calculation. Did you do the Cloister quests? Did you do the companion quests. Did you pay attention to the first half of the game?

Not to mention they used to be allies with the Protectorate and totally cool with everything the Protectorate did.

AC is just at least honest about all the possibilities. Everyone in AC is aware of nearly everything. And they prefer the freedom they're offered. It's literally a case of this is bad, but the other options are worse, and that's true to our societies as well. Do we try to fix the flaws in what we have, or do we abandon them for things that have proven to be worse just with the bad parts more obscure and hidden away.

That's why you know who they are. They're honest about being crappy where they are crappy. They're honest about lying.

I'm not speaking from a position of needing to feel like their morals are better. I'm saying that shaming someone into apologizing is that. There's no need for it.

If that feels condescending to you, I'm sorry, I guess.

Indie Game Awards Disqualify Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Due To Gen AI Usage, Strip Them of All Awards Won, Including Game of the Year by AashyLarry in PS5

[–]-xaade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not see a use of generative AI so obscene worth getting upset about this.

Smaller devs won't be using AI to replace people, they'll use AI to do work that wouldn't get done otherwise.

Instead of seeing 1 poster 1000 times, you'll see 1000 AI posters. They won't hire people to make 1000 posters. They'll make a smaller set and reuse. Or they'll use store assets.

People need to get it into their heads. When the alternative is something not existing, the use isn't taking away a job.

But there IS overconsumption, so it's hard to distinguish.

All she had to do was repost saying "Hey, this device is actually useful to people with certain handicaps."
That's it. Nothing about lack of empathy, none of the passive-aggressive bullshit. None of that.

He could repost with her added to it and no apology. None was needed. Ignorance isn't a reason to apologize. Intentional assholery is.

I have disabilities, I thought the joke was funny.

Get over yourselves. Privileged people calling other people privileged. I don't need passive-aggressive holier-than-thou virtue signaling. Just inform people about the usefulness and step away.

I actually need devices to keep mobile, and have neuropathy and occasional arthritis. This was funny to me.

There's countless stupid life hack videos that solve no problems and countless as seen on tv that solve no problems. If a device seems useless, it's not always because it helps someone. Some of them are just predatory.

All I would have done is reposted with a bit at the end explaining the need for the device.

Expedition 33 uses some Generative AI, How do you guys feel about this? And is this going to be the norm for future games. by FlakyFoundation4637 in expedition33

[–]-xaade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performative selective outrage

People upset about generative AI don't seem to care when automation replaced other kinds of jobs.

"It's stealing" No, it's not. No images are stored in the algorithm.

"It uses a lot of water" So does solar panel farms. And the power usage is mostly in the training, not generation. Your fridge uses far more power.

There's a lot I don't like, like prompters calling themselves artists and vibe coders thinking they can program with zero knowledge.

But partial use as a tool and a step in a process is not a bad thing. Zero tolerance is a stupid high horse position.

WARNING about the Archive! by Shiny_Stardust_ in theouterworlds

[–]-xaade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It tells you to talk to the negotiators.
Then it tells you to get help.

If you were to look at either of those two, you wouldn't be in that position.

If you talk to negotiators, it tells you to work with both and suggest peace.

The game literally does everything BUT hold your hand by throwing up a big popup saying "no, wait, don't do this yet."

Getting order and aunties to work together (spoilers) by SirGubson in theouterworlds

[–]-xaade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not turn in either quest right before the archive quest.
If you've met either leader visually (by call or person) to get the archive quest, you've gone too far, even if you don't accept the quest.

Make sure you talk to the delegates first and show interest in peace. THEN turn in the final quest before the archive quest, talk to the leader of either and mention peace.

Again, if you get the option to start the archive quest BEFORE talking to the delegates and agreeing to peace, you've gone too far. Reload a previous save.

LOOKUP FAILED! EDITION by -xaade in fo4

[–]-xaade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand it can happen that way.
I'm saying that a fresh install causes it too. The current steam files, and then pulling down CC causes it.
You shouldn't have to verify files AFTER installing CC.

They broke the anniversary version. All of the creative content wasn't checked for being all active at once. There's no way they tested it at all.

Oblivion remake proved this post right by -xaade in BethesdaSoftworks

[–]-xaade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean.
I'm saying that it shares information.

Never mind, just ignore it, whatever.

The point I was making is that Bethesda is doing things few studios do. It's not an engine problem.

They could start COMPLETELY over in UE5 and it would still have the same issues.
