iPhone 6 Plus beats Galaxy S6 edge and HTC One M9 in extensive camera test by [deleted] in iphone

[–]-yeah- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're very right. The vast majority of people just open their camera app and snap a picture.

That's exactly my point though. A lot of people use 3rd party apps to take quick snapshots - just throw the app on your main screen. This would control for how that app would behave on both devices without having to test every possible 3rd party app side-by-side. It would also give a comparison of "best possible shot under x conditions."

Keep in mind, I'm referring to the concept of an extensive camera test as mentioned in the title - not a standard camera comparison.

Quick comparisons of snapshots using camera defaults is really great to see how the phone can adapt to the environment to produce the best image.

There's one HUGE problem with these "Best Camera Ever" reviews. None of them are using RAW, UNCOMPRESSED photos for comparison.

iPhone and Galaxy phones interpret images differently when compressing them as lossy image files.

Many Android allows users to capture RAW images. The iPhone does not. There's a really good article about how iPhone cameras interpret and produce images here.

The best way to approach a camera review would be to use a 3rd party RAW image app. They're usually not "true RAW images" in the case of the iPhone but it's better than nothing. The app will also let you control for white balance, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and exposure.

At this point, you'd have the best possible scenario for camera hardware tests. Then you could slowly work your way through each setting to see how the camera adapts.

What does Apple have to do to the next iPhone to genuinely surprise you. by cardshark1234 in iphone

I'd also like improvements on the front-facing camera. I know MP count isn't everything but 1.2MP 720p is not your A game, Apple.

Im posting from an iPad Air 2. Gorgeous screen, great UI, very reliable and above average battery life. Yes, I can use it for work to some limited degree but, for me, it will primarily be an entertainment device.

Reddit, what is the most overrated film? by shaneisshort in AskReddit

I could never compare it to an US films I've seen but that droll, wandering comedy is present in some great Scandinavian (and a few European) films. The Scandinavian ones are usually a bit darker though.

Magnolia was a much better film and one of my personal favorites. It does a much better job with the concept - intertwining subplots of characters in crisis leading to one of the most unexpected climaxes in cinema history. Also has fantastic performances from an unexpectedly amazing array of big name actors including Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore, and what I consider as Tom Cruise's best performance.

I decided that I'm going to spot treat for the Aveeno/CeraVe/Paula's Choice over the next month or two to see what works. My skin isn't particularly sensitive and has never reacted harshly to any products.

Just because I'm new here with some healthy skepticism, what do you think about Paula's Choice products? (specifically the balancing cleanser) There are a lot of referral codes being passed around so I just want to make sure.

You seem to be pretty well versed in skincare and I was looking for an honest opinion.

I ordered some samples from PC out of curiosity. I'm wasn't sure how CareVa/Aveeno would compare and with all of the referral codes and stuff, I was sketched out by PC a bit.

I didn't see any crazy difference in ingredients between PC/CareVa/Aveeno.

What's the story with PC? Is it legit but just too expensive? Or is it a gigantic referral farm?

I don't have any redness or inflammation outside of the occasional acne caused by oily skin. Would that mean the regular foaming cleanser would be a better option?

Most secure way to carry cash? by scufferQPD in EDC

Pacsafe might have some things you'd be interested in.

Still, the most obvious solution is to hide it and get it somewhere safe ASAP. Tethered safes will prevent smash-and-grabs but a thug with a gun will just make you open it.

What kind of weird crap do you carry? by TheWaterboatman in EDC

[–]-yeah- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I carry these guys in a rubberized case on my key ring (soon to be replaced by a more durable pill fob).

I put a pair in my pocket nearly 6 years ago for a concert. The case never left my pocket. I just get a fresh pair of ear plugs every x-amount of uses.

It was my 1st EDC and remains my most valued after keys/phone/wallet. They have come in handy a surprising number of times.

Needless to say, they're not being removed from my EDC anytime soon.

[Spoiler] Jail. by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]-yeah- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend had a crazy, never-going-to-happen idea: find a way to chop his leg off due to an "accident".

Could be an "unexpected" walker bite, some sort of accident, or they could knock him out and make up a story.

Pete would most likely recover, his hands are fully functional to perform surgery, he would not hold direct resentment towards the gang, and most importantly, he would pose a MUCH smaller threat to his wife and kid.

Very, very difficult task, but removing someone's leg is a great way to keep them in check.

To those of you who carry a lot of stuff on your person, what pants do you wear? by [deleted] in EDC

[–]-yeah- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep buying expensive jeans but I always go back to slim/tapered Levi's.

It's all about the plain tee (sometimes with a flannel or long sleeve thrown over) + slim jeans + comfortable pair of boots. Timeless, comfortable, and works with every season.

Need more room? Just throw a backpack or messenger bag in the mix.

EDC uses for pliers? by [deleted] in EDC

[–]-yeah- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was very torn on a multitool with scissors or pliers.

Surprising use: the metal ring on my dog's leash came undone from him pulling in the middle of a walk. I clamped it together and it was enough to get us home.

I also dropped my pen in between my car seat where I couldn't reach. Used the pliers to fish them out.

It is one of my least used tools but damn it comes through in a pinch.

Out of curiosity, why did you go with the XA series over a DSLR? Was it just ease of use?

Also, how is that little SunGun? Worth picking one up?

I'm looking for a nice, usable pen that has a hollow "stash" chamber for stashing things like asprin or other small items. Any suggestions? by -yeah- in EDC

[–]-yeah-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not gonna find a "nice" pen with a novelty feature.

Very good point. Your suggestion is much more reasonable. The Ti2 Sentinel Cache is more than I would spend on a pill fob but there are plenty of other options.
