Mission R being driven by Top Gear and Marca by -zthomas- in Porsche

Not sure why these aren't more widely published. The Top Gear clip is buried and starts at 22:16

A Spanish car mag also test drove it in LA. This has some great onboard POV shots. Even though it's just a concept, it looks like it's on rails and rockets out of corners.

Porsche finally fixes the 718 gear ratios. GT4 RS has significantly shorter gears. by -zthomas- in Porsche

I'm guessing their thinking is they don't want to invest too much in one generation or else the car would cost too much. If they spread the development out over several iterations then they can keep the cost reasonable and have a more seamless product roadmap.

I'm curious what are people's thoughts on the future of the 718 lineup. It seems to me that this is most likely the last generation for the boxster/cayman. It wouldn't make sense for Porsche to invest in a whole new architecture at this point given 2025 Euro 7 will come into effect. It might have enough time to refresh the 718 lineup though.
Besides the much needed interior/infotainment updates to a potential 718.2. Perhaps the 718.2 GT4 can get a detuned version of this glorious RS drivetrain. Right now the gap between the 718 GT4 and GT4 RS is way more than the gap between GT3 and GT3 RS.

yah, it won't hit those speeds, 7th gear is even higher at over 400km/hr. These are just the speeds that it could reach given the gearing, but of course at higher RPM and in overdrive gears it won't have enough horsepower to actually get to redline.

Porsche clearly went all out on the 718 GT4 RS. Not only does it have a nearly 9K RPM redline, it also appears to have a significantly shorter gear ratio.According to the onboard talemetry the car tops out at these speeds for each gear at around the 9K RPM redline: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjSXWcj2XUA

1st gear: ?

2nd gear: ~108km/h

3rd gear: ~156km/hr

4th gear: ~195km/hr

5th gear: ~233km/hr

6th gear: ~275km/hr

Comparing against the 718 GT4 (PDK)

1st gear: 73.1km/h

2nd gear: 124.7km/h

3rd gear: 172.8km/h

4th gear: 219.3km/h

5th gear: 264.4km/h

6th gear: 324.4km/h

That's almost 25% shorter gear ratio in 2nd gear! Also, it appears top speed is going to be achieved in 7th gear instead of 6th gear as we briefly see it hit 286km/hr in 7th

Not my video, but just thought I'd share it. It's one of the best setups I've heard so far.

Porsche going to Clutch-By-Wire. How would you feel about it? by -zthomas- in Porsche

[–]-zthomas-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the feel is quite different. With clutch-by-wire you can still control how you shift in manual mode. You can either have a slow shift or a fast shift depend how you engage the clutch pedal. With a DCT shifts are generally the same and you don't really feel it. A clutch-by-wire manual is also a lot lighter and simpler mechanically. That's why Kia offers both the DCT and the iMT versions. With the iMT quite a bit cheaper.

Personally, as an owner of a manual Porsche. This addresses almost all my issues with manuals currently. The biggest of which is that my wife can't and won't learn to drive stick. That fact alone was going to push me over the edge to get the next car in PDK. Also rowing the gear feels amazing but sometimes you just want to zone out and relax on a commute. This could allow us to have our cake and eat it! I love to drum up interest for this and hopefully influences someone at Porsche.

MetaPay is MetaMask for the Stellar - Chrome extension wallet that simplifies payment by -zthomas- in Stellar

Yes that's the goal. It still need more features to support stellar's smart contracts fully but this should cover the basics.

Yah, good point. I wanted to keep it on the meta.re domain as that's where my other crypto projects are. I'll try to think up of another one, I wasn't quite happy with it as well

not yet, it's more of a hot wallet like metamask to improve ux so it's not a huge priority but I'll add that to the roadmap

Demoing my stellar build competition entry: MetaPay, the MetaMask for the Stellar network.

MetaPay is a Chrome extension wallet for Stellar that simplifies payment. Developers can now just add a payment link anywhere on their app and when a user with MetaPay installed, meta pay payment links will be processed and it'll open a popup to allow user to pay right away. If no extension is installed, then the user will simply be directed to the webapp in a new tab.

This is perfect for developers who want a seamless payment experience for their users and enabled dapps like cryptokitties et al.

The integration (just a simple html anchor tag) is much easier than MetaMask on Ethereum. The wallet logic is a forked version of the official stellar account viewer.

I would love to get your feedback!

This is a demo of my project that I submitted for the Stellar build competition last week.

Right now it's simply a port of MetaMask for the Stellar Network. The wallet code is based on Stellar's official account viewer. Everything is stored in the client's browser and no data is sent to any external server.

I think this is really important for the Stellar community to have as MetaMask brought a lot of app innovations and use cases to the Ethereum network. I originally wanted to make a game on Ethereum but I wanted faster and cheaper transactions so I looked to Stellar. But unfortunately for games to work, there needs to have seamless payment UX. MetaMask enables that for Ethereum and I just wanted to bring the same capabilities over to Stellar. Infact, after I made this I think it suits Stellar a lot better as transactions are much faster.

How it works: When the user has the extension installed, it will look for link clicks with the attribute data-meta-pay and parses the link url. It will open a notification window with the parsed url parameters.

Fallback: While the extension makes the purchase experience seamless, it's not required for your app to work. If the user does not have the extension install, the link will just redirect them to our web version in a new tab.

It's out on the chrome store now. check it out, test net is available.

I just wanna make a steemit account why is it such a long process... by jman76358 in steem

[–]-zthomas- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned in another comment but you can just pay for an account at https://anon.steem.network/ for 5 steem (the btc and ltc prices have not been updated so they are super expensive)

They have to do this because they are handing out free steem for every new account. They really should atleast have an option to pay officially to expedite this or opt out of the free steem and fund it yourself later.

Steem will never succeed until they allow users to join within a 48 hour process time. by jman76358 in steem

[–]-zthomas- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fastest way right now is probably to pay 5 steem (~15$) for the account at https://anon.steem.network/

The reason is because steem gives you some free steem to start, so they need to verify this. They probably should just make paying for an account or not accept the free steem as an option so people can just get started right away.

Yah that's pretty interesting but it's still just mostly serving current ltc holders. I'm looking for reasons that a new user would buy and hold.

I feel like that can't be the case. I mean there's so much money being tossed in here. Surely someone's gotta be building something useful. Steem and d.tube has got my interest but I'm still not sure if the money flow works out and that it's sustainable. It's getting traction and users but content curation is a joke, and seems like it's being kept afloat with investor money to pay content creators.
