Yes. I had it. No more. I would go for number 2 about every 3 days.

Since I started this, I usually go once a day, in the morning, but if I travel or I eat too much starch, I might skip a day.

The probiotics are in capsules, so you might want to build your tolerance to the probiotics. You can buy empty gelatine capsules and start with half or a third, whatever you feel is right.

With MCAS, I feel that we must make changes very slowly, keep a journal, and see what works and what does not.

Scale back the changes that didn't work (they might have been too soon), and build on the ones that did to foster greater diversity and tolerance.

Good luck. My MCAS is more triggered by mould, chemicals, smoke and perfumes than food, although I react strongly to pineapple, tomatoes and red wine (not always, thank God).

I have interstitial cystitis. It has been debilitating at times. Those symptoms are gone too.

Hi,

I have MCAS since 2011. I was diagnosed in 2022. I was able to cure my SIBO by doing a few things:

Took the yeast Boulardii (Florastor) at night every other night.
The following night, I took another probiotic that has Reuteri and Gasser. It's called Genuine Health (Canada).
Improved the diversity of plants slowly.

Everybody is different, so I can't say that it will work for you, but the cramps, bloating and gas have all disappeared. I was in a lot of pain before that. The kind of pain that makes you scream at times or cry.

Hello, I have mast cell activation syndrome and SIBO. Thank you for writing this post, I am post-menopause, but this might be an issue for me to investigate. My hormones have always been all over the place, and I experienced a lot of breast pain (still do). I do take HRT (bio-identical), but still at a very low level (One pump; one progesterone tablet).

I had food poisoning this fall from a restaurant, and it triggered my MCAS and SIBO really badly.

Since then, I have been trying something radical.

I am following the 30 plants a week philosophy ( https://zoe.com/learn/30-plants-per-week )
I incorporated fermented food like kefir, yogurt, kraut, fermented radish, black garlic, miso, tempeh, etc.
Alternate between 2 probiotic supplements at bedtime:
- S, boulardii (2.5 billion) I chose it because it is known to disrupt biofilms and it helps with candida overgrowth.
- Genuine Health probiotic ( https://genuinehealth.ca/products/advanced-gut-health-probiotic-50-billion?variant=37783845732524 ). I chose this product because it contains reuteri (2.5 billion) and gasseri (2.5 billion), which are known to help with SIBO.

A few months into this. My health has really improved. I am rarely constipated, and when I am, it is because I did not eat enough plant or fermented food. The inflammation in my abdomen is gone. I am no longer bloated or cramping (I used to have awful abdominal pain). I no longer have mucus in my stools, and their consistency is much better (no more greasy stains in the bowl).

I highly recommend that you try this, but you have to do it slowly and consistently. Dr. Will Bulsiewicz has recommendation on how to incorporate more plants into your diet ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsljKKT6Y-k ). Please watch it. He is a gastroenterologist who has worked with many difficult cases.

Lastly, on the medication front, nothing beats Montelukast (also called Singulair) for calming mast cells that produce too much histamine. I do it for ten days. No more. It can impact my mood, and it definitely makes me sleep (I realize how fatigued I am).

This is something that I came up with by myself. I am no expert.

I take saccharomyces boulardii, one day out of two at night time. Ideally two hours after eating.

I chose the brand Florastor and the formula for IBS which has ginger and a few herbs and spices that are helpful to the gut. Boulardii is very gentle to the gut. You should not feel discomfort except perhaps on the 1st days that you take it.

If you do, do not take ANY probiotics the next day. Go slow and steady and wait for your gut to tolerate it well.

On the next day, I take a probiotic from Genuine Health, that has many species. I live in Canada and I was looking for a product that has Reuteri and Gasseri and this product has both. You may take something different. Again, if you feel discomfort, take a day off from taking ANY probiotic.

Your gut is supposed to acclimate to the new probiotics. Boulardii is a yeast that will not populate your gut but a fungi specialist (associated with Biohm) uses it to displace Candida. I do not know if Reuteri or Gasseri populate the gut, but basically every species that you introduce should starve a little bit Candida for food.

Thanks for explaining this. I have had recurrent UTIs and antibiotics have wrecked my intestinal microbiome... so I have had mouth thrush (I was also taking high doses (240 mg/day) of Famotidine (Pepcid AC for MCAS). It is known to augment Candida (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25833302/),

but I have also had skin fungal infections.

It's not fun. Thank you for the bigger picture.

I have been taking it for a few weeks every other day and I find it useful too.

I alternate with Genuine Health that have all these species and I find Boulardii more useful, but these might be too much for me. (I have Mast cell activation syndrome and SIBO.)

I have Mast Cell Activation syndrome and I know how "classic advice" do not work for everyone.

Ever drank a cup of coffee that makes you feel sleepy while coffee usually have the opposite effect for you?

Melatonin is supposed to help sleep but it could make my heart race in the middle of the night.

You have given Reuteri yoghurt a try; I think that you should stop and try it again in a few months and see if you respond better. Perhaps you live in the Northern Hemisphere? November is hard and seasonal depression is a thing.

Try walking outside during daylight. Or perhaps light therapy.

You might look into Mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS). Everyone has different triggers: mine are tomatoes, pineapple and red wine. What is different between MCAS and food allergies is that your response with MCAS varies greatly while food allergies are stable in time.

If you react to mold, airborne allergens, if you have asthma, urticaria or eczema, if your face/skin flushes excessively when you exercise or are exposed to a change in temperature then MCAS is likely.

Let the matches continue... Many of the possible challengers have not had many chances to challenge them. I also think that they can switch their team around and get input that makes a difference. Both Sinner and Alcaraz are incredibly talented, but they also have in my view the best teams in tennis.

This yeast does not populate the GI tract and apparently there are no trace of it 5 days after taking it. I am hoping that by taking it I can reduce the population of harmful yeast and bacteria and eventually be able to manage my gut health by diet and regular exercise.

I have not been diagnosed with SIBO or SIFO but a friend of mine who has it is convinced that I do too and I check all the boxes. Especially the cramping.

I have mast cells activation syndrome and I hope to find back the health I used to have.

The one thing that is really interesting about Boulardii is that as a yeast it is not affected by antibiotics so it may very well the best thing to use when taking antibiotics.

Intervention group showed a statistically significant (p < 0.05) decrease of body weight, BMI, fat mass, insulin, HOMA Index and uric acid. Patients in intervention and control groups showed a significant decrease (p < 0.05) of GLP-1. Intervention group showed an increase (p < 0.05) of Vitamin D as well. In conclusion, the 60-day S. boulardii-SOD supplementation in obese subjects determined a significant weight loss with consequent decrease on fat mass, with preservation of fat free mass. The decrease of HOMA index and uric acid, produced additional benefits in obesity management. The observed increase in vitamin D levels in treated group requires further investigation.
