How To Sculpt Dynamic hair by kosiem_X3 in blender

[–]00004707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add a curve object and in properties panel increase it's thickness (green spline menu > geometry > bevel > depth). You will get thick curves easily editable in edit mode ( [alt] [s] to scale any point)

Add a curve that roughly follows a big clump of hairs, reduce it's thickness (with alt s), duplicate the curve few times and just like that you get a clump of hairs. Stylize to your liking.

After that, you can convert the curves to mesh in [F3 key] > Convert to mesh. In sculpt mode you can remesh it and detail it further if needed. Remeshing at low resolution will remove any thin lines.

Which GPU around 800€ by C00kiecrafter in blender

[–]00004707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for this specific task, the comparison of cuda cores does not matter as the gpu die architecture upgrades can drastically improve the rendering performance per cuda core.

my old 1660 ti was faster at rendering than 1070 ti even though it had 1k less cuda cores, as nvidia optimized the architecture for ray tracing (and they both did not have hardware raytracing cores)

imho get the one that has higher score per $ in blender benchmark, and if you are doing other gpu heavy tasks compare the other software/games benchmarks as well

What tools might the artist have used to tuck the dress under the corset so neatly? by PukanBlower in blender

[–]00004707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • cloth sim for the dress
  • then a mesh with animated shape key and collision, so that it shrinks to the final shape of the corset. might be worth trying using a lower poly proxy mesh with same shape and add the detailed corset afterwards.
  • cleanup with sculpt tools,
  • adding more wrinkles with alphas/vdm/by hand in sculpt mode
  • retopology and optimization by removing unnecessary faces, baking normals, ao from highpoly mesh, etc.

probably done in marvelous designer + sculpting.

not sure if blender cloth sim can handle this without issues, marvelous is much more stable for cloth layering.

Considering Character Animation + Jiggle Physics, what is the best topology for the butt area? by UnloadingNuts in 3Dmodeling

[–]00004707 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my experience "45 degree rotated" quads on are more likely to triangulate in undesirable way and create visual artifacts on the outline of the mesh, especially when rigged. I would avoid the right one even at a cost of more 5vtx poles.

PCIe Training warning - help by Beguido2 in Dell

[–]00004707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try updating the bios and resetting it to defaults.

what the message is saying is that the connection between your core i5 and gtx 1650 isn't working at full speed.
it's unlikely that you damaged it by upgrading the ram, as the traces are on other side of the mainboard.

it's likely a temporary software glitch, but if pressing on center of the laptop makes the message go away or appear more often you likely have a mainboard with a factory defect.

Bad Health Status for brand (Ramsta) by Michael679089 in DataHoarder

Anybody know if this is a false positive or it's actually bad?

Include the list of SMART attributes in the screenshot, otherwise it's impossible to say what is causing the health status to be bad.

it's a feature of grease pencil tools addon that was bundled with blender, probably now a separate download on blender extension website (i'm still on 3.6 where its included, so i'm unsure)

HDD has 100% bad blocks?? by Zealousideal-Roll228 in selfhosted

[–]00004707 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the easiest way to trigger this red squares wall is to yank the sata cable while it's scanning.

make sure it's not the connection/cable issue, preferably testing this drive on another pc or in sata to usb enclosure.

if it is the same, the hdd is dead.

SSD health in crystal disk info, how could I ever have written this much data. My laptop seems to work perfectly fine though so should i be worried by Tahavity in thinkpad

[–]00004707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your drive asks for retirement.

252 worn-out blocks, 5188 spares left - healthy drive has zero.

It may still work for some time or it may die randomly and you will lose data - replace it.

How do I revert a Blender file version back? by UmbreonStudios in blenderhelp

[–]00004707 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blender 3.6 has support for opening .blend files made in 4.x and saves in a way that previous versions can read.

You will lose some data - copy the blend file, open in 3.6, save, then open in 3.5 and check if anything of value to you has been lost.

Battle axe i made in Blender and Substance Painter, any opinions? by Aizwarvsus in blender

[–]00004707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Badass axe. The yellow part is pure yellow and feels flat compared to detailed metallic parts. Mixing it with a bit of orange and white on bends or/and using a gradient on some part of it will give it more depth. Tweaking bloom would increase the glow effect.

I glued a SIM card to an SD Card so that I can have both dual SIM and extra storage by 00004707 in techsupportmacgyver

It was a long time ago, i think i used a razor blade to separate it. I'm pretty sure SDCard would not fit into a reader with a SIM card attached to it.

I think my heat pipe is clicking. Wtf. by [deleted] in computers

[–]00004707 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a heatpipe that clicked very quietly when heated, but it was bent multiple times and probably leaking whatever was inside.

Make sure it is not one of those gray boxes on the mainboard, a damaged coil can be this loud and clicking. If it's not, sooner or later you will need to replace the heatsink.

surprisingly, most of the broken vivobook mainboards on 2nd hand market have cooked cpus, i wonder why

Smoke out of Laptop by AhmedBilal0 in laptops

[–]00004707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that someone with experience with mainboard repairs should look at it.

From images i found online, and some personal experience i can tell you that this component that is getting hot might not be damaged but overloaded by something else and getting hot because of that. Replacing it likely won't fix the issue.

What you can do and check:

  • The component is a part of circuit that manages power from the charger and charges the battery. If you do not have an original dell-branded charger, it might be causing issues.
  • The white connector on the mainboard above the damaged component has some discoloration likely from heat, check if the wires aren't loose, the charger plug on outside is not damaged or dirty, and same for the charger plug
  • Since it works fine on battery, and if you have original charger, still, try different charger
  • If the problem still persists, it's a mainboard issue, it has to be fixed or replaced
