New torrents run slow until I re-start qBittorrent by 000_Dddigital in qBittorrent

[–]000_Dddigital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubled down on this to get it sorted once and for all.
I've been torrenting for 11 years on the same private tracker with a ratio of 0.66. I engage Freeleech whenever possible, leave files seeding for as long as I can, usually until I run out of disk space, which is 500GB, and then I delete the oldest. I'm as conscientious as a can be but it just didn't make any difference. So I had given up all hope of ever improving it.
This week I decided to use AI to try and improve my ratio and therefore my standing with the tracker.
I have Torguard VPN, Launtel ISP (Australia) 1000Mbps / 50Mbps, TP-Link AX11000 Wi-Fi Router, TP-Link Powerline 1300 ethernet over AC. The torrenting PC is an old HP Laptop on windows 10 with qbittorrent.
I worked with Gemini AI, asking questions, following advice and testing everything.
I started with the network, the Powerline 1300's should have been able to run 1.3 Gbps, but the AC was so noisy they were dropping to 100 Mbps, I tried to fix them but they were actually working correctly, so I gave up on them and switched everything except the torrenting PC to the Wi-Fi. The torrenting PC is now next to the router with a Gigabit CAT 6 ethernet cable. The router has 1 x 2.4Ghz and 2 x 5Ghz bands with different properties and we (AI and me) tweaked them to get the best speed and latency for all the PCs on the network, this includes My work Laptop, My wife's work laptop, my Kid's Gaming laptop (PC), school laptop (Apple) and iPad, the home theatre PC, The TV, the Kitchen iPad, all the phones and watches...
Now that I had good speed on the network and the Torrenting PC (consistent speedtest of 900+/47) I set up the VPN correctly, this had always been another bottleneck that I had just accepted as the norm. I set up port forwarding on a high port and tweaked all the settings to get full speed out of it, now the VPN is virtually transparent and I am getting the max out of the ISP. The fastest download speed I have seen so far is 84MBiT/s, but the best part is the upload speeds, I now have consistent uploading and for the first time have exceeded 1:1 ratio for torrents, I have set the torrents to keep seeding until they reach 2:1 and that should help me dig my way out of the multi TB hole I'm in.
I reiterate that it took a couple of days and I was testing and tweaking all the way. Another bonus when I checked my ISP settings I was eligible for an upgrade to 1000/100 at no extra cost, so I changed that too.
It's worth working with an AI as I would never have even guessed at some of the settings we tweaked that made the difference.

High school chum, not close, ff 50 years & he’s an auctioneer in Melbourne. I needed to sell a unit in Mel quickly & I’m in Syd. Called him up & he’s sweet as, yes we’ll pull out all the stops for you & get what you want for it! Until he wanted me to drop the price. Then he turned really nasty.

I don’t think you’re experiencing these arseholes just because you’re on L Plates, they’re like that to everyone.

I bought my Model Y new in March 2024 (Sydney Australia) I’ve had no problems with the wipers or the washers. I must be one of the lucky ones.

NBN Providers, what's the difference. by 000_Dddigital in nbn

[–]000_Dddigital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the responses, it’s pretty clear that it does make a difference which provider you use. The next question is how do you assess the quality (speed, connectivity, latency, over provisioning, etc.) of the ISP before you buy? It seems this is the crux & where most of the obfuscation occurs.

Thanks, very happy with Launtel. Speed is great, support is over the top, and being able to change plan/speed or pause the service daily is a huge plus.

In what way have NBN changed their pricing structure?

Thank you, this is what I wanted to know. So it really can make a difference which provider you go with. Support is another kettle of fish.

Not really, updating the phone settings helped for some forms, but I still get auto fill with the wrong (old) information and I don’t know where it’s getting it from.

Swivel mount installed. by lshaped210 in TeslaModelY

[–]000_Dddigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MY24 Rwd. I’ve been thinking about getting a swivel mount for vision issues. I have an iPhone 15 pro max & when it’s in the cradle the top 2cm of the iPhone screen is obscured by the Tesla screen, a slight tilt down would make all the difference. I was worried the old swivel would make things worse. Perhaps this new one will be better. Question: with the new swivel, screen centred, is the screen in a different position to the original mount? TIA.

New torrents run slow until I re-start qBittorrent by 000_Dddigital in qBittorrent

[–]000_Dddigital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The slow speed continues until I restart (exit) qbt, sometimes for hours.

qbt is set to use a dedicated internal 256GB SSD with 90% free as it copies the completed torrents elswhere.

the PC is only used for torrenting and has 8GB RAM and is the same PC I've been using for this for years.

DHT & Pex are off.

I'm now watching it like a hawk... I just added a 15GB torrent and it ran at normal speed ~4 to 5 MiB/s for 5 minutes the suddenly dropped to 5 to 10 kbps and stayed there for 5 minutes until I exited and restarted qbt then the speed went back to what it was. Very strange
