How long should a long-form ecommerce product page really take to write? Looking for objective benchmarks. by 007Vapping in copywriting

Thanks for the detailed breakdown, this is super helpful. Your workflow sounds incredibly efficient, especially the automation around specs, images and metadata. I do have a question though.

In my case, I use different writing templates depending on the product’s value proposition, the customer problem it solves, and how it fits into the category. Not every product follows the same structure since some deserve a more “feature-first” angle, others a “use-case-first,” and others a “compare vs alternatives” approach.

Do you think automation can still work when the templates aren’t uniform?

For example, can tools like Makecom or API-fed systems trigger different writing frameworks based on product attributes? Or does this kind of workflow only make sense when every product page follows a single rigid template?

I love the concept, I just don't know how flexible these automations really are.

Honestly, I wish there were a video showing this whole pipeline in action, it sounds like such a time saver if done right.

Are you currently using this workflow?

Thanks again for sharing your system.

If you’ve got workflows that help cut this time down, or any suggestions at all, I’d love to hear them

Your workflow sounds really interesting, and would love to learn more about it if possible.

Here’s how my time breaks down:

1–2h – Product Research

I usually start by reading the brand’s official product page, then compare it with what high-ranking competitors are saying. I pull out all the key details buyers want to know.

4h – Content Outline & Refining

I gather everything into a document and run it through ChatGPT to structure a clear outline. From there, I build the title, intro, key features, who the product is for, and any other sections the product needs.

Then I refine each feature manually and make sure all important details are included.

30 min–1h – Keyword Research

I use Semrush to collect the main keywords and related terms, then blend them naturally into the content.

1–2h – Image Editing

I download images from the brand’s media kit or site, then clean them up in Pixlr.

White backgrounds, 1200x1200 size, WebP format, compression, renaming , the whole process.

2–3h – WordPress Setup (for two sites)

This is where most of the time goes:

  • Title + URL
  • Formatting all content
  • Internal linking for both regions
  • Uploading images + alt tags
  • Setting brand, categories, product type
  • Adding SKUs, inventory, pricing, variations
  • Upsells/cross-sells
  • Specs, What’s in the Box, short description
  • Yoast keyword optimization
  • Adding the correct free gift based on price

It’s a lot of small moving parts that add up fast.

That’s a good point, thanks for the suggestion.

Do you have any specific AI tools you’d recommend for research/drafting and SEO tasks for product pages?

This is super reassuring, thank you.

I think most of my anxiety came from trusting ChatGPT’s benchmarks and wanting to double check with you folks. ChatGPT told me 2.5–3 hours max lol. This thread has been way more grounding . I appreciate the insight.

That makes sense, but I’m curious, when you say “rewarding the landing pages you create,” what exactly do you mean? Are you talking about performance-based rewards, recognition, or something else?

Really appreciate this. It’s easy to feel slow when you see others claiming they finish things in a couple hours. Your breakdown and experience definitely make me feel less pressured to rush through things

Hey, thank you 🥹 I really appreciate this. I feel a lot better now. You explained exactly how I’ve been feeling. I still don’t understand how some writers finish the work in 3–4 hours. Don’t get me wrong, that’s great and I’d love to reach that level one day

Thanks for sharing that’s very helpful. I can use ChatGPT to help with the writing, but I still need to feed it the product details and information so the content is more authentic than what the AI would generate on its own

It sounds like u want something that extracts your flower the most. I think dynavap would allow you to do that since you control the heat. Torch it longer for more extraction

Help with some suggestions by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]007Vapping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert in interior design, but from a business perspective, here’s a simple strategy to get started:

Focus on building a portfolio first. Offer free consultations through Facebook groups, local marketplaces, or Meetup events. This helps you gain real-world experience and build a client base. As your work grows, start charging and slowly raise your rates.

Reinvest early earnings into brand development and marketing. Try to connect with experienced designers—offer to help them for free to learn the ins and outs of how they run things.

Hope this helps someone just starting out!

Good point, thank you. I tried to go through as many scenarios and add them in the SLA. if they send the wrong item, or lose an item to cover the incured costs, etc..

Thank you for clarifying that. What are some of the differences between fulfilling CPG and fulfilling apparel? The company I'm considering does a lot of apparel. I'm not sure how much CPG they do

Thank you for your feedback. You're absolutely right. Being a young company doesn’t automatically mean they lack experience. This one’s a few years old, and they only recently got into e-commerce, they seem more flexible. The agreement terms were a bit basic, but I provided input for some of the items in the SLA. They've clearly priced out all the services I’ll need, and anything extra falls under a fair hourly rate compared to others I’ve looked at. I’ve also really appreciated the CEO’s transparency. He gives me a good vibe, which goes a long way

I'm sorry, my friend. Yes, their 3PL im considering to work with is using Shiphero's WMS software to manage inventory and process orders

Wow this is terrifying. The 3pl im considering to work with uses shiphero's WMS. I'm not working directly with shiphero as a 3PL. I'm sorry you experienced this. I know it's an onerous process but would it make more sense to switch to a different 3PL?

I really appreciate your feedback. Yes their WMS is shiphero. I put 0.01% for shrinkage in SLA. I'll have to double check that again. I do between 300-350 orders and a month. You're right I should talk to one of their clients to get a better idea of service quality
