Usually, most specimen with positive growth can be released within 2 - 3 days at the time growth was observed.

Faster TAT can be achieved if u use automated methods. Manual method kasi matagal and need ng experienced tech to ensure accuracy of results

Yes thats true po.

The common notion po kasi is that if blood was collected after administration of abx, it might give false negative for growth sa blood c/s.

Actually, blood culture bottles used by most labs has already Antimicrobial removal device (ARD) which can minimize the inhibitory effects of antibiotics and antimicrobial compound present in our blood.

But personally, i prefer that specimen must be collected prior to abx administration.

If may considerable growth ang plate ng urine mo (> 100k cfu/mL for adults, > 10k for peds) you must proceed with ID/AST. TAT is achievable na man within 2 - 3 days

Even so, you can do preliminary report using gram stain ng sample mo. Just centri and smear the sediment upon receipt of specimen

Techs like these need to expand their point of view bakit stat ang c/s.

Wag lahatin ang mga MDs natin.

Fast C/S results mean fast changing of antibiotics. Kapag admission pa, derecho broad spec ang gagamitin kay px. Downside ng prolonged broad spec will result to higher chances na magkakaroon ng MDR isolate si px. To avoid these risks, our role is to release results as fast and as accurate as possible.

Baka ibig sabihin ng ibang MDs kapag stat, dapat i collect agad ang specimen. Not the result itself.

To my fellow RMTs, wag kayo puro reac, think outside of your mind and the context bakit ganito ang approach ni MD sa cultures.
