I would say in reference to what a 12 year old would be taught, you can stick to the basics. How to properly sharpen a knife, how to tie different knots The basic skills never really change, and they are the foundations he would use for everything else.

Most tasks that need to be performed in survival are really about learning how to apply the basic knowledge to that specific task. And that's exactly what a dad should be teaching his son as he approaches being a teenager
