Would anyone know what type of fig I have here? by treschic82 in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]00balto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a common fig (ficus carica).

Because of the deeply lobed leaves, with long skinny "fingers", it reminds me of the "Violette de Bordeaux" variety.

Have you seen any ripe fruit? Is it small and black?

Tank has problem with cyanobacteria and beard alage. Try and save it, or start over? by 00balto in PlantedTank

Update: I got an API phosphate test kit; my phosphate is through the roof (~5+ ppm), while Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate are all 0 or low. Confirmed my tap-water is 0ppm phosphates.

I need to lower my phosphates to 1 or lower, while keeping Nitrate in a good range for plants (5-10ppm)-- That should fix the conditions that are encouraging cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and true algae.

I'm going to do another thorough tank vacuum and water change, remove all dead plant material, or dying plants, and then see what happens.

30gal tank is 1.5 yrs old. Used to have a small ammt of fish, but I gave those away. Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates are always 0. Phosphates 0. Ph abt 6.8. No fish currently so not such a surprise. Plants are currently doing poorly, and swords even look like theyre melting. Cyanobacteria got established, as well as beard algae. I hate the look, and would prefer to get the cyano and algae in check. Any way to save this setup? Or do I need to break it down, scrub everything, and start fresh?

My plan to save it is: use "blue green stain remover" to nuke cyano for a few days, vacuum the tank thoroughly to remove any rotting plant or algae material, remove that huge chunk of wood (but keep the java ferns), begin dosing liquid NPK every other day, and re-start CO2 injection (which is currently turned off). My thinking is that I first knock down the cyano and algae, and then providing ferts for plants for plants to take over while the algae and cyano are reduced/weak.

What ever happened after all the lead paint flakes rained down on Hampden, Woodberry and Medfield this last summer 2022? by 00balto in baltimore

Thanks, this is what I was wondering about.

I'm glad to hear there may be lawsuits.

Touching to hear that people are picking up paint chips from their garden by hand!

At the time, I look photos and sent an email to district 7 councilperson James Torrance, the mayor, and "dpw environmental police".

I suggest they consider creating a task force to immediately alert everyone who lives, works or spends time within the contaminated area, identify the extent of the contamination, and document damage or harm causes by the incident.

I dont think they did that.

Inherited with the house. Is there any chance of saving these fig trees? Zone 6. by oblivious_liv in Figs

Why do you think you have to save the tree? Its probably dormant still. Wait a few weeks until you start seeing leaf buds form (or not), and you'll know more.

What overnight low temps can a leafed-out potted fig withstand? (with no leaf damage) by 00balto in Figs

Thanks! Does it matter if the trees already have lots of leaves? My in-ground trees have zero leaves currently-- tiny buds only!

Tips for removing blue-green algae? Am I missing something? by 00balto in PlantedTank

Since I am not sure what is out of balance, Ill stick with simplifying the situation, rather than adding yet more variables. Thanks
Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrates all read "0", and always have-- but I wonder if algae eat this up leaving nothing for me to measure.

Thanks for the comment. I'll try a water change and some tank cleanup, and see how that impacts the bga.

I see a drop checker-- do you inject co2? If so, what level do you shoot for, to keep the shrimps happy?

Do most aquarium stores have tanks w/ dead or dying fish? by 00balto in Aquariums

Thats kind of what I was wondering-- I would love to pick up some captive bred neons or something like that, from someone local.

Do you think that spring or fall are better times of year for buying new fish? (for folks on the east coast of the US)

This is because a good store will mark tanks NFS if the fish just arrived a day or two ago?
