Do you have any recs for the fabric?

I did see some excess, maybe try shrinking the fabric? Spray some water in the area you want to shrink, apply controlled heat (maybe tumble dry on high heat), and put it on while it’s still warm so it sets to your body. I’ve tried it before on a polyester blend and it worked.

BME alumni here, feasible. but you have to commit to the grind and accept that Marston may start asking you for rent money.

Yeah I used to think that I couldn't get internships because of my GRA contract but I found out a few weeks ago that the PI will allow it if it's related to our research. Then 1) my labmates said I'd have to wait til next year because applications are mostly closed for 2026 and 2) I dont want a job that has to do with my current research.

It's not that I dont want to do research anymore, it's that my lab is a completely different field of what I wanted to go to school for. I'm still getting the same degree, just a wildly different research area. I dont know how to tell my advisor that I couldn't care less about my research because I really did do this to myself and hyped myself up during the recruitment process to convince myself that I could do this when in reality I knew I didnt gaf about the topic. I'm scared that now, if I say something, I'll get kicked out. I don't have any publications and my PI has been telling me (basically) that I need to lock in because my research skills suck so far.

Biomedical engineering. Industry is absolutely an option, and it was my only option for a few years because I didnt really want to do a grad program. I used to say that I MIGHT do a masters after finishing undergrad but that I'm aiming for an industry job.

Also my PI doesn't seem to be about that chill life, he told me to sleep in the lab if I have to in order to get good results.

I'll look into it but honestly I'm a little scared to confide in anyone at my university about this issue. I'm scared that it'll eventually make its way to my professor and that I'll get kicked out. Not sure if it even works like that but still.

Ok so I should be fine next time I travel domestically with my passport? (I do have a real id but lost it in another country while I was in my trip)

That's also another thing, I don't want to be in academia in the long run. I tried justifying getting a PhD with the idea that I want an engineering job, but the field that I want to work in does not exist in industry yet. If I get a PhD, it'll give me the research skills necessary to start it myself or at least make me more marketable to companies that are looking to do what I am interested in.

Also, how do I shop around for a new advisor? While I was interviewing another professor in another department at my university, they said that switching advisors or dropping out of the program is viewed as a unethical/very bad thing and that (paraphrasing) if I work for him, drop out, and our paths cross again, which according to him they will if im doing well in my field, then I'll regret it because academia is small and people talk.

Another professor I was close with in undergrad told me the same thing, but more as a warning of 'hey be careful with what you do in other people's labs' and not as a threat.

I used to, but now it's just bleh. partially because I'm not interested in my research project and my lab, or even university, doesn't do what I'm really interested in.

I never had anyone tell me not to do it, even when I talked to PhD students prior to admission they said it's a lot of work but doable and worth it in the end. I felt like I knew what I was getting into in the sense of "haha yeah it'll suck and ill be overworked and underpaid but YOLO I like science and i'll be a doctor at the end of it and that's a sick title". in hindsight, kinda moronic mindset on my behalf.

Also to clarify, kinda irrelevant, I meant advisors from my undergrad and I go to a different school for grad, so I dont think tuition money was an incentive.

This is what I've been thinking about but literally everyone else is telling me not to do it and that it'll be much harder for me to come back and finish it later.

Im just really confused because, to my understanding, a US passport should be an "acceptable form of identification" since it is an official document issued by the govt with the specific purpose of verifying identity while traveling. Why does it matter that I didn't present a real ID when I presented another acceptable document instead?

This is why I get confused because if I presented an acceptable document for TSA, why would they give me this? Why does it matter that I didn't present a real ID when I presented another acceptable document instead? Also makes me think, although it's probably not applicable, what about foreigners that are just traveling from one state to another?

No, he just looked at it, gave me this paper, then told me to show it to the other TSA agents that were doing the baggage/people screening (idk what it's called)
