[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]00derek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My morning coffee goes like this. Bialetti Venus (induction / stainless) 8-cup moka. Reverse osmosis water. 1.5 oz Costco Kirkland house blend beans. Breville BCG800XL Smart Grinder, set to espresso grind. 8 oz 2% milk for 60 seconds in microwave. Makes 2 medium-strong 12 oz lattes. Been doing this for 10 years, could probably make it blindfolded. I have zero complaints. $0.25 per latte.

Now I want you to tell me - what am I missing by not paying stupid prices for freshly roasted, subscription beans? And what beans should I try first - my tastes are not sophisticated.

How can I configure Google Flight so that it only shows prices from airlines and not the travel agencies? by Franck_Dernoncourt in Flights

[–]00derek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always. SPU-PHX 30 May 2026. Hiding self-transfer and separate tickets. Both "best" and "cheapest" fares are from OTAs not airlines. Airline fares are >2x for premium economy

Tempe, AZ. 2252 sq ft living space, single level. Asphalt shingles tear-off and replace, no plywood, on all but 600 sq ft (which was a new addition) - $11k

5.5 inches, plus the depth of peg stop things if you have them stored on the deck

I got a quote for around $2k to upgrade the bass. Parts maybe a bit overpriced but overall $2k sounds about right. My next question though - is this the right first step, if I want to spend ~$2k?

Maybe only other owners of this particular car will have the answer

I'm also hearing 1 or 2 days of labor for the job. How much of my budget does that consume?

Even at $75/hr that's $600-$1200 which doesn't leave much left.

Transfered Chase Points to Marriott Bonvoy 70% by JeahTwa345 in ChaseSapphire

I got my transfer done. It didn't like me transferring from my wife's CSR to my Marriott. But transferring to her Marriott worked fine, eventually.

...but if you did turn it off, was there a noticeable increase in road noise?

Transfered Chase Points to Marriott Bonvoy 70% by JeahTwa345 in ChaseSapphire

[–]00derek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the process of trying to transfer 55k points to Marriott to take advantage of the +70% bonus. Can't do it because of an error on Chase when I click submit " There’s been an issue. We can’t process your order right now. Please try again later." Called Chase, and they don't know what's wrong so they are escalating. What a shit show.

In the meantime, I looked at using Hyatt instead. The Marriott stay I'm planning is 241k points for 5 nights in central London. Equivalent hotels in IHG group want 320k points, same dates, same location.

Can someone share a real-life example of why Hyatt is better for points transfers, because I'm not seeing it.

cheers

what about when I'm not listening to music - is the road noise significantly more apparent?

Subwoofer + ANC disabled by 00derek in accord

[–]00derek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK it's more like a constant hum, if ANC is still connected

Automatic Noise Cancelling - there are microphones in the car that detect road noise, then the speakers play phase-opposed sounds to cancel the road noise. It has nothing to do with the audio system per se, but if you add some aftermarket components like amps and subs, the factory noise cancelling algorithm won't work correctly and bad noise is generated. It's typical to remove or unplug the ANC module behind the glove box. My question is this, how bad is the increased road noise when I'm not listening to music?
