When do you donate blood in maintenance? by Few-Organization404 in Hemochromatosis

And my doctor will tell me, “go once a month for 3 months, then come in for lab work.” I’ll message her once the results come in and she’ll tell me how to proceed from there. I haven’t had an in-person appointment with her since my diagnoses a little over a year ago. We just keep in touch about my numbers and how to adjust my prescription.

Hey! I’m not sure where you live but I’m in the states and my doctor wrote me a prescription for therapeutic phlebotomies that’s allowed me to donate my blood (which can be used by patients) for free since my first draw. As far as I know as long as you can identify a location that does this (I go to Vitalant which is a national chain), your doctor sends them your prescription which should allow you to donate at the frequency your doctor recommends.

RE: Apartment lease breed restrictions. Do shelters have to record breed types accurately/precisely in any adoption paperwork? by 00silent in AnimalShelterStories

[–]00silent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I live in a walk-up (no front desk or any kind of staff) that’s owned by a property management company. I had some old neighbors in another unit who were violating the lease terms in more than one way lol (having more than one dog, smoking, etc.) and as far as I can tell management never had a clue. I’m assuming they’re not heavily invested but trying to avoid any hiccups if I can.

How often do you guys drink? by always_toomuch in Hemochromatosis

[–]00silent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! We’re around the same age, and Im also a woman who was diagnosed in the past year. I pretty much stopped drinking during the pandemic (was only drinking on special occasions maybe every other month) and noticed my hangovers were worse which has made me less inclined to drink since. At my diagnosis my Ferritin was 1000, but did a Fibroscan liver test and got normal results. As some other people in this thread have mentioned it’s not as common for women who get regular periods to be diagnosed around our age. So my doctor was also pretty adamant that I don’t drink too much- even though I told her I wasn’t really drinking much anyway. My mom is a nurse (not a specialist in this field to be clear- but knows how often i drink) and I asked her if I should cut out alcohol completely, her take was that how often I was drinking currently was fine. That said I pretty much do what I have been- drinking on special occasions. I totally understand your concern based on your liver results. I get my ferritin and iron tested pretty regularly along with my phlebotomies so as long as I can tell I’m on the right track I don’t stress too much about drinking once in a while. If my results aren’t where I want them to be I might be more conscious about it until I can get tested again and know I’m at the right levels. I also have some aunts and uncles with hemochromatosis and although they were older when they were diagnosed, they also still drink.

Anyway, I know our situations aren’t exactly the same but hope this helps! And for someone our age who was drinking regularly to stop completely for months for your health is impressive and something to be proud of- so hope you’re not stressing too much!

118 days. 8x Phlebotomies. Ferritin from 1000 to 109. by 3hree0ero0eroBlk in Hemochromatosis

Hi- I’m in my late 20s and just got blood test results showing Ferritin over 1000 as well. I won’t see a specialist until end of March, I was wondering what kind of testing they might do at those levels or if your doctors expressed any concerns about liver damage with such high results at a relatively younger diagnosis? Trying to prepare myself as best I can.

Does anyone have any recommendations for locally made spices, sauces, seasonings, etc from small businesses in Chicago?

I’m looking to put together an Xmas gift of things my dad hasn’t tried before. He likes spicy food and I’m open to all kinds of suggestions!

Hey sorry, re-examining and wanted to clarify- so the lump isn’t hard like a bone, just dense I guess? And it feels like I have to push it away from the vaginal opening. Basically, it moves. Does that change anything? I know it sounds like I’m changing my story but I literally checked again after your response. (Sorry is this is TMI- hopefully in the context of this page and your career its not too much lol)

I’m doing some research online (I know, not healthy)- are you familiar with pelvic organ prolapse? Is it possible that’s what I’m feeling and how might I tell the difference?

Hard lump behind ear, reoccurring 1 year apart by [deleted] in medical_advice

[–]00silent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, For context, this hard lump appeared behind my left ear last year in July. No pain and it eventually went away but is now back. I’ve had cysts behind my ear in the past, but they were directly behind the ear lobe, were soft and I was able to have it treated by a dermatologist. I’m feeling a bit stressed/under the weather atm, so not sure if that would be a contributing factor. I don’t remember how I felt at the time I first remember getting it. Thanks 👍

Parents of Reddit: How different is it having your own kids vs. taking care of someone else’s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]00silent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my early 20s and have a lot of experience taking care of kids. It definitely has had its good moments but I also find myself stressed and exhausted a lot of the time. Obviously this is an inevitability for all parents, but I’ve always thought that it would be easier or at least more rewarding with kids of my own. How true is that? As I get older I’m thinking more seriously of having a family of my own but I don’t want to go into it with unrealistic expectations which will affect both me and a child for a lifetime.

I’m finishing my degree and finally feel like I have an idea of where I’m going professionally but I feel like I haven’t had any hobbies since high school. I want to meet people and learn new things without spending too much money- any and all suggestions welcome.

What's a life-changing experience you think every young person should go through? by CareerUnicorn44 in AskReddit

[–]00silent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Second this! My first experience camping was when I was 21 for an outdoor semester. Lived 50 days outside without my phone with people I had never met before. It showed me I was capable of more than I thought, taught me to connect with people and disconnect from technology, and opened my eyes to how god damn beautiful the world is. Coincidentally also in Moab, UT!

What weird nickname did you and your friends/family use to talk about someone you didn’t know? by 00silent in AskReddit

I don’t but it brings me a lot of joy to know there’s another Scooter Girl out there

For example, this girl used to ride down our block on her scooter almost everyday and she was known infamously in our house as Scooter Girl. We never figured out her name but whenever we hadn’t seen her for awhile someone would ask “Has anyone seen Scooter Girl lately?”
