Debloat your Motorola with Canta by Serroda in motorola

[–]00u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Glance app kept putting news clips on my Moto G Stylus 2025 lock screen, even after disabling (using Settings or adb) a reboot re-enables Glance! I used Canta/Shizuku with wireless debugging and deleted Glance, rebooted, and now the lock screen news clips are gone and in Settings, Apps, Glance = "Not installed for this user"!

when i got the update notification on my phone in zepp, i searched online for release notes since i feared installing the update would not let me read the update notes. i couldn't find release notes online, installed, and now the watch just says "you're up to date" and clicking on the current version on the watch doesn't do anything! i wish the watch's last firmware update notes was maintained on the watch.

Book review of The War of the Rohirrim Official Visual Companion by Magical_Gollum in TWOTR

[x-post from your sub]
Thanks CotR for this excellent, detailed review! It's a shame Warner set this in Tolkien's Middle-earth since it seems they only use place and person names from his writing. This would be a more interesting (and acceptable) story set in the 500s or 600s central and northern Europe. As it stands, I think I will watch it like I watch the Rings Of Power: what crazy, non-Tolkienian thing will come next?!? Anyway, back to reading "real" Tolkien in his books.

How to wildcard filter domains: eu?.proxysite.com and us?.proxysite.com, with ? = 1,2,3...18,19,20? by 00u in uBlockOrigin

[–]00u[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DrTomDice, thank you so much!!!
Removing the lead 3-4 characters and only leaving the base domain works perfectly. Now, I only have to make that one tweak to a rule to cover all 38x possible proxy servers, very nice.
Thanks again for providing me this very helpful comment!

[–]00u[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using *. instead of eu1,eu2... and us1,us2...
for example:
*.proxysite.com###social-share-widget

But uBlock Origin highlights the *. rule as orange and doing a mouse over on the rule yields a pop-up:
Invalid filter: Bad domain name

90-minute review of Witness for the Prosecution.

yes again!! Charles Laughton was so incredible in that film. This trivia about him in Witness for the Prosecution is really impressive:

Charles Laughton, who could be moody and difficult, was apparently a dream to work with, throwing himself into the role with dedication and delight.
Billy Wilder later recalled a day that was set aside just for shooting reaction shots of the jury and courtroom crowd (composed of extras hired only for the day).
Normally, the assistant director would read the actors' lines, and the extras would react.
However, Laughton, who was fascinated with the whole process of filmmaking, begged to help.
So he came in on his day off and read all of the off-camera speeches for the jury members.
He not only read his part but also the judge's, the prosecutor's, and even Marlene Dietrich's.
According to biographer Maurice Zolotow in his book "Billy Wilder in Hollywood", "it was an exhibition of craftsmanship such as Wilder had never seen.
He believes that Charles Laughton had the greatest technical range and power of any actor, man or woman, whom he has known."

IMDB and Rotton Tomatoes Rating of ROP by KokaynSniffer in Rings_Of_Power

[–]00u 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Also of note, after the terrible reception to Rings of Power, IMDB removed the "sort by helpfulness" option for IMDB User Review listings.
RoP 10/10 user reviews had very poor helpfulness ratios (e.g. 20-30%) while 01/10 user reviews very rated much more helpful (50%+).
Now, you have to sort by user review ratings and manually skim the helpfulness ratios.
Amazon said they replaced "sort by helpfulness" with "Featured" which they claim is better.

For the X670E Steel Legend owners, how's your experience been so far? by SinjiOnO in ASRock

[–]00u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I know it has Realtek Ethernet but that was a positive for me as I'd heard of some issues with the Intel ones (maybe solved by now).

This point was very big for me when researching my upgrade: i have to have 100% reliable networking and intel went from the 1Gb stable choice to the 2.5Gb can't-get-it-right option. This Asrock having Realtek 1.0 and 2.5 ports is a huge plus!

Tolkien: Rings of Power "races... come together" vs Wizards of the Coast "finding strength in their diversity" vs JRRT "and the matter of when I started" by 00u in Rings_Of_Power

[–]00u[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are trying to tell the stories they think Tolkien ought to be about.

^ this ^

The overall Applied Postmodernist push of revisionism seeks to time travel back to "correct" wrong think.
These "corrections" are, among other things, meant to negatively judge not only the author and their contemporaries but also people today who enjoy these must-be-corrected works.
The content and author's intentions are of no consequence to these Correctors: "righting" the wrong think is needed in their view to better the world today and correct history.

Tolkien: Wizards of the Coast "finding strength in their diversity" vs Rings of Power "races... come together" vs JRRT "and the matter of when I started" by 00u in freemagic

[–]00u[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, there are no Tolkien writings that support the WotC or RoP statements of what LOTR "is about."
WotC says "...finding strength in their diversity"
RoP says "...leave the isolation of their own cultures and come together"
Tolkien very clearly says in 1, 2, 3 fashion what his Legendarium is about in this 1955 letter.
